HAPI Helping Haitians rise through innovation, collaboration, learning, and leadership. Guiding principles & core beliefs:
1. Everyone has something to contribute
8.

Women and girls in Haiti suffer the threat of violence, endure grinding poverty, die from inadequate healthcare, and confront overwhelming odds to achieve higher education and earn a living wage. At HAPI, women and girls have access to health services, vocational training, and youth programs to empower them to build a healthy, robust foundation from which they can lift themselves out of poverty. D

evelop local leaders who will lead and manage with integrity and creativity to arrive at sustainable solutions for growth for their country.
2. Economic empowerment of women is a key strategy in accomplishing our goals.
3. A healthy economic and social community must be built upon a moral and spiritual foundation.
4. Haiti will benefit from decentralization of resources and the development of rural areas with businesses, education and health services which reduce emigration, particularly of young adults.
5. A strong Haiti must include greater education, social and economic opportunities for women.
6. Equality of relationships (gender, class, cross-cultural) must be restored in order to achieve a healthy, prosperous community.
7. Alleviating poverty is not about filling an empty plate: it is about increasing confidence, education, spirituality, creativity, learning how to resolve conflict, and respect.
9. Do not do for someone what they can do for themselves. Charity that goes beyond short-term relief enables generational
poverty; focus on justice and empowerment to help people 'thrive' not only 'survive.'
10. External 'help' cannot care more about the program or change than the persons directly impacted or the change will not be sustained. It's not about 'us'!

Beyond consultations and lab exams, education is a key part of prenatal care. We sit with expecting mothers to guide them through pregnancy and delivery, and many say they discover things they never knew before—even after previous pregnancies.

How people are received, understood, and supported are essential in Healthcare. At the Felisane Health Center, our receptionist Sophonie plays this vital role every day. She welcomes patients of all ages and backgrounds, ensuring each one is guided with patience and respect. She navigates between digital records and human emotions — entering data on the EMR, organizing files, and at the same time offering a warm smile or a calming voice. Her work is essential to all. She is one of the forces that keeps everything running smoothly at our clinic.

My name is Jocelyn Lauture. I am 33 years old, from Mizak, and I am a former HAPITECH student.

After graduating high school in 2017, I began studying engineering in Jacmel, driven by my passion for building and construction. But in August 2018, I was involved in a motorcycle accident that left me seriously injured.

The physical pain was difficult, but the emotional impact was even heavier. I spent around five months on crutches, unable to live or function normally. During that time, I missed my university classes and final exams. I began to see that moment as my greatest failure. Eventually, I had to stop my studies—not only because of the accident, but also because I could no longer afford transportation and tuition.

I had to find another path.
That is when my cousin encouraged me to join HAPITECH, a school well known in our community. In 2019, I enrolled in the electricity class. What I found there changed everything. The training was practical, accessible, and affordable. The teachers were excellent, and I mean it. I did not stop at one class, I continued learning for four years, taking courses in tiling, windows installation, computer literacy, and computer repair. I completed my journey in 2025.

Today, I mostly work in electricity and tiling. Through these works, I was able to buy my own vehicle and build a satisfying source of income.

One of the greatest strengths of HAPITECH is its affordability. It gave me—and many other young people—the opportunity to learn multiple skills without leaving our community. We do not have to go to the capital or downtown to build a future.

After graduating, I also had opportunities to work with HAPI. It is meaningful to give back to the same place that helped shape me.
I was saddened to hear that some classes are no longer available. I truly hope they return and even expand, so more young people can benefit as I did.

To the youth, I say this: do not believe that there are no opportunities in this country. Learn a skill. Use your hands. Build something.

And to the founders and staff of HAPITECH, thank you. You did more than teach me a profession. You changed the way I see my life. What I once saw as my greatest failure became the foundation of my future.

A powerful debate in our advanced ESL class last weekend.
Our students explored a complex question: should Haitian youth leave the country in search of a better life? It was inspiring to hear their perspectives and reflections on the current challenges facing Haiti.

Today, on World Health Day, we raise awareness about the importance of vaccination.
Ensuring that babies receive their vaccines on time is essential to protect them from dangerous diseases and to build a healthier community for all.

My name is Saint Georges Marie Viaut. I am 28 years old, from Mizak, and I am a farmer.

I am currently eight months pregnant, and I am preparing to welcome my third child. I joined the Start Right program in November, and since then, this journey has felt different for me.

I used to live in Port-au-Prince, but as insecurity continued to worsen, it became a heavy source of stress in my life. In 2021, I made the decision to leave and have a stable life in Mizak.

The Felisane Health Center is the main place we rely on for healthcare in this area. I have come here many times before, especially with my two children whenever they were not feeling well. Because I was already familiar with the center, I also learned about the Start Right program and decided to enroll during this pregnancy.

What I appreciate the most are the education sessions. They have taught me so many things I did not know during my previous pregnancies. I am learning how to better take care of myself and how to nourish my body for the health of my baby.

The nurses are always kind and supportive. They treat us with respect and take the time to give us advice that truly helps.

As I prepare to give birth, I feel more informed and more confident than ever before. My hope is that the health center continues to grow. I would especially love to see an operating room added, so that all women can receive even more complete care.

Nurse Mona plays a crucial role in patient care. She leads the pre-consultation process, where she collects anthropometric data, records vital signs, and gathers each patient’s medical history.
Her work ensures that every consultation begins with accurate information, allowing for better diagnosis and quality care.

Dental care is essential for overall health, yet many people still lack access to it. At the Felisane Health Center, we are committed to changing that. We provide quality and affordable dental services not only to people in our immediate community but also to those who travel from surrounding areas to receive care.

My name is Viana Jean-Louis. I am 25 years old and I live in a place called Dubois.

One night, I suddenly felt very unwell. I was struggling to breathe, and by the next morning, my family rushed me to the Felisane Health Center for a general consultation. I had already lost consciousness by the time I arrived.

I was placed under the care of Dr. Royal, who, along with the team, responded quickly. After examining me, they discovered that my blood sugar level was extremely high. They gave me IV fluids and, because my condition was serious, I had to be transferred to another health facility.

Later, I returned to Felisane. Unfortunately, at the other center, while I was still unconscious, I was given medication through the IV but was not properly guided on what to do afterward. They did not ask me to complete the necessary tests to determine what type of diabetes I had. When I came back to Felisane, I was again placed under close care. They started me on insulin while waiting for my test results, and once the results were ready, they adjusted my treatment and put me on tablets.

What I truly appreciate is how quickly they respond in emergencies. As soon as a problem appears, they act immediately to provide care. They also take time to give advice and guide me on how to manage my condition.

Today, I continue my follow-ups, and everything is going well, thanks to God.

What I would like to see improved is more hospitalization services. I would also like the center to operate both day and night so people can receive care at any time.

To the staff and leaders, I say thank you. This health center has been very important for me. I hope it continues to grow and become a full hospital while maintaining the same level of dedication and quality care.

Through our disability support program, we visited participants alongside Nurse Thevenin to conduct check-ups and provide food assistance.
Many of them live in remote areas and face extremely difficult conditions, yet they welcomed us with warmth and gratitude. Some even prayed with us, thanking God for the support they receive and hoping we can reach others in need. Moments like these remind us why this work matters.
