HAPI Helping Haitians rise through innovation, collaboration, learning, and leadership. Guiding principles & core beliefs:
1. Everyone has something to contribute
8.

Women and girls in Haiti suffer the threat of violence, endure grinding poverty, die from inadequate healthcare, and confront overwhelming odds to achieve higher education and earn a living wage. At HAPI, women and girls have access to health services, vocational training, and youth programs to empower them to build a healthy, robust foundation from which they can lift themselves out of poverty. Develop local leaders who will lead and manage with integrity and creativity to arrive at sustainable solutions for growth for their country.
2. Economic empowerment of women is a key strategy in accomplishing our goals.
3. A healthy economic and social community must be built upon a moral and spiritual foundation.
4. Haiti will benefit from decentralization of resources and the development of rural areas with businesses, education and health services which reduce emigration, particularly of young adults.
5. A strong Haiti must include greater education, social and economic opportunities for women.
6. Equality of relationships (gender, class, cross-cultural) must be restored in order to achieve a healthy, prosperous community.
7. Alleviating poverty is not about filling an empty plate: it is about increasing confidence, education, spirituality, creativity, learning how to resolve conflict, and respect.
9. Do not do for someone what they can do for themselves. Charity that goes beyond short-term relief enables generational
poverty; focus on justice and empowerment to help people 'thrive' not only 'survive.'
10. External 'help' cannot care more about the program or change than the persons directly impacted or the change will not be sustained. It's not about 'us'!

Today, we gathered members of our community for our regular conference on HIV-AIDS, syphilis, and sexual education. We began by warmly welcoming everyone, followed by a prayer led by Mr. Benoît, who was also celebrating his birthday today. Nurse Bizelande and Dr. Royal then guided the presentation, bringing clarity and awareness to these important topics.
Our audience included people of different ages and backgrounds. Raising awareness is essential to protecting our community. Another successful workshop by HAPI.

My name is Marie-Lourde Badio. I am 75 years old and I live in Mizak.

One Monday night, I experienced severe abdominal pain. My stomach was swollen, and the pain was so intense that I could not recognize people around me. I could not even touch my own belly—it was unbearable.

The next morning, I came to the Felisane Health Center because it is close to my home. I am used to coming to the pharmacy here for my blood pressure medication, which usually helps me a lot.

When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Miss Mona and the team. I was examined and then saw the doctor Royal for my results. They discovered that I had an infection. I was given several medications to take at home.

I must say, I truly dislike going to the hospital. I avoid it as much as I can. But the doctors and nurses at Felisane are so kind and gentle that when they speak to me, I often forget that I am even in a hospital.

Over the next nine days, I returned to the center for my follow-up appointments. My stomach pain completely disappeared. At that point, my only issue was high blood pressure, and they gave me medication to manage it.

This health center feels like home to me. I am always received with care and respect, and the medication truly works. I encourage the team to keep up the good work and continue serving the community with the same dedication.

My name is Catherine Duré. I am 39 years old and I am from Mizak. I am a joyful person who loves people deeply. I enjoy helping others, taking part in community activities, riding motorcycles, cooking, working with computers, and above all, I love children.

My life journey has not been an easy one, but it has shaped who I am today. When I was a student in PauP, I lived far from my immediate family. Getting to school was difficult because I had no private transportation. Someone helped me with rides and sometimes with food, but sadly, that person took advantage of my situation. I became pregnant by him at only sixteen years old.

When he offered me money to end the pregnancy, I refused. I chose to keep my baby, even though it meant putting my education on hold. My father did not accept the news, and I had to leave home. After being turned away by several people, a friend in Jacmel welcomed me. I returned to school and. To care for my baby, I did any work I could find—cleaning houses and washing dishes while completing my education. The child’s father never took responsibility.

Today, my son is a talented and promising musician with a passion for electronics. He loves me deeply, and I am incredibly proud of the young man he is becoming.

Twenty years later, I chose to have another child—this time under very different circumstances. I met my current partner, and we have been together for five years. He understood my past, accepted me as I am, and stood by my side. Together, we welcomed our daughter which is my second child.

During this pregnancy, my brother encouraged me to visit the Felisane Health Center in my community. From my very first visit, I was welcomed with warmth and kindness and enrolled in the Start Right program, where I felt supported and cared for.

I planned to give birth at Felisane, but one Wednesday I experienced severe pain. Because there was no gynecologist, I was advised to go to Jacmel. There, doctors immediately decided I needed an emergency cesarean section. On December 18, 2025, my baby girl was born healthy.

Today, I returned to the Felisane Health Center for my daughter’s vaccinations. She is receiving five vaccines to protect her from illnesses.

Looking back, I am grateful—for the people who stood by me, for the lessons life taught me, and for the strength I discovered within myself. I do not encourage anyone to have children without being prepared or without support. I strongly encourage others to seek care at Felisane. I live in this area, and access to quality healthcare close to home matters. With more services, Felisane can continue to better serve our community.

A look inside our laboratory.

From welcoming patients to conducting tests, analyzing results, collecting data in our electronic medical record system, and preparing reports, our laboratory plays a vital role in giving quality care in our Health Center.

We offer a wide range of tests, including complete hemogram, sickle cell screening, blood typing, HIV and syphilis testing, blood glucose, malaria testing, urine analysis, smear tests, and more.

Our laboratory technician always makes sure patients feel comfortable and at ease, especially those who are afraid of injections, often bringing smiles and laughter to turn fear into reassurance.

This video shows what a supported delivery looks like at Felisane Health Center.
Through the Start Right Program, this mother followed consistent prenatal care. And today, she is not alone. Nurse Lafortune gently guides her breathing through each contraction, while Nurse Bernithe carefully records every detail of the newborn’s first moments.

To allow more people to benefit from dental services at the Felisane Health Center, we added a new working day. Instead of two, dental care is now available three times a week : Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is great news for our patients!
