⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spa Massage vs. Medical Massage
What’s the Difference?🤔

We continue to hear a common belief from our patients:
"I used to think massage was just a luxury spa experience."
The truth is there are different types of massage, and they serve different purposes.

🌿 Spa / Relaxation Massage
Typically focused on relaxation and stress relief. The environment is often more about calming music, aromatherapy, and helping the nervous system unwind. These massages are wonderful for overall wellness and stress management but may not be the most affordable as a consistent wellness strategy for many of us.

🩺 Medical / Clinical Massage
This type of work is more targeted and often does not include phrases like "full body" in its plan. Sessions are focused on specific pain patterns, injuries, or chronic conditions. A clinical therapist assesses what’s happening in the body and applies techniques aimed at improving mobility, reducing pain, and supporting recovery.
At MI Wellness Center, we work with clients who are dealing with things like:

✔️ Chronic neck and shoulder pain
✔️ Postural issues
✔️ Muscle imbalance
✔️ Edemas
✔️ Injury recovery
✔️ Long-term tension patterns

And we hear we do it at a reasonable price. During sessions, our medically trained massage therapists not only provide relaxing environments, we also explain what we’re working on and why, so patients understand their body and the treatment plan.
Both styles of massage have value.
If you're dealing with persistent pain or something that just won't resolve, a more clinical approach to massage may be helpful.
And to Alice: thank-you for your thoughtful review and for trusting us with your care over the years. 💛

🚩🚩There’s been a huge rise in “lymphatic drainage” videos on social media lately, and we want to clear up a common misconception we're hearing from our patients who end up expecting to "hurt" during their MLD work.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is not an abrasive treatment. Too much pressure can actually collapse lymphatic vessels and make fluid movement less effective.

MLD done by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist or Certified Lymphedema and Wound Therapist (CLT or CLWT) focuses on clearing important drainage sites, stimulating lymph nodes and opening lymphatic pathways through distal to proximal flow with gentle, rhythmic movements.

It does not include intense scraping, painful digging or 🫣 SLAPPING, whether you're receiving it for post-op recovery, cancer recovery, or lymphedema.

If you’re ever unsure about what you’re seeing online, it’s always okay to ask questions. Education is a big part of what we do, and we're always happy to explain the why behind the work.

Your body deserves care that is intentional, informed, and respectful of how your systems actually function 🙌🏼

POV: Your chest and biceps have been tight for years and you didn’t even realize it 👀
Tam’s deep tissue and myofascial work here on pecs + biceps =
✔️ Better posture
✔️ Improved shoulder mobility
✔️ Less neck tension
✔️ Stronger lifts
✔️ Deeper breaths
for moi 💖
So many shoulder issues actually start in the front of the body. When your pecs are locked down and your biceps are shortened, your shoulders get pulled forward and everything compensates.
This is focused, intentional work, not just “digging in.”
If you lift, sit at a desk, train hard, or carry stress in your upper body… this is your sign.
