Spa Massage vs. Medical Massage
What’s the Difference?🤔
We continue to hear a common belief from our patients:
"I used to think massage was just a luxury spa experience."
The truth is there are different types of massage, and they serve different purposes.
🌿 Spa / Relaxation Massage
Typically focused on relaxation and stress relief. The environment is often more about calming music, aromatherapy, and helping the nervous system unwind. These massages are wonderful for overall wellness and stress management but may not be the most affordable as a consistent wellness strategy for many of us.
🩺 Medical / Clinical Massage
This type of work is more targeted and often does not include phrases like "full body" in its plan. Sessions are focused on specific pain patterns, injuries, or chronic conditions. A clinical therapist assesses what’s happening in the body and applies techniques aimed at improving mobility, reducing pain, and supporting recovery.
At MI Wellness Center, we work with clients who are dealing with things like:
✔️ Chronic neck and shoulder pain
✔️ Postural issues
✔️ Muscle imbalance
✔️ Edemas
✔️ Injury recovery
✔️ Long-term tension patterns
And we hear we do it at a reasonable price. During sessions, our medically trained massage therapists not only provide relaxing environments, we also explain what we’re working on and why, so patients understand their body and the treatment plan.
Both styles of massage have value.
If you're dealing with persistent pain or something that just won't resolve, a more clinical approach to massage may be helpful.
And to Alice: thank-you for your thoughtful review and for trusting us with your care over the years. 💛
