✨This month's Staff Spotlight: Katie C. Intake Coordinator @ the Walker location. Thank you for all your dedication, compassion and enthusiasm to Our Hope and to every client that walks through our doors. We are so blessed to have Katie on our team! ✨
Why I enjoy working with women in recovery:
I love working with these women because everyone has a different story to tell. I not only learn so much from the women that walk through our doors, but I get to see their progress through the program and watch their growth in real time. I get to see the girls relax, let their guard down, build sober relationships and persevere through their time here.
What I bring to Our Hope:
My goal is to bring smiles! I am typically the first face you see coming into treatment, so my aim is to make sure women feel safe and comforted. Coming to treatment can be a daunting task in itself, and nobody comes in on their best day ever. It's my job to make sure my girls are ready for the next step and feel safe enough to put that next foot forward. Even when I'm leading group I like to keep things lighthearted and focus on building confidence, kindness, and centering ourselves on the positives.
Fun fact about me:
One fun fact about me is that I was an extra in a movie called Gingersquatch that was being filmed in Kalamazoo, MI over a decade ago. Ironically, I was a part of an angry mob that was chasing the Gingersquatch or something. I was about 9 or 10 at the time and I don't think the movie was ever released to theaters. I have never seen the full film, but it exists on IMDB. My ginger brother and I were at the front of this mob supposedly hunting down one of our own people!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I worked as a case manager at another inpatient women's substance use treatment center in the UP as it first opened, I loved it so much I decided to return to the work when I moved down to Grand Rapids! This field is so rewarding for both clients and staff.
