Chelsea and Kelly are hosting an informational and hands on CPR, AED, and choking workshop for expectant parents, parents, and caregivers! Join us at The Root in Sacramento to learn how to identify and respond to emergencies with confidence.

Ever wondered about the difference between choking and gagging? What to do if your baby stops breathing? How to respond if someone collapses? This hands-on training will answer those questions and give you the skills you need when it matters most.

As registered nurses, Kelly and Chelsea believe this is information everyone should have - and hopefully never have to use. This is a no-pressure, no-test session. We’ll walk through everything together so you can feel prepared and empowered.

Whether you’re expecting, have little ones at home, or care for children, we’d love to see you there.

Register at the lin: https://www.sacroot.com/events  and reach out with any questions. Hope to see you there!

“How do I know my baby is getting enough milk?” This is THE question that keeps new parents up at night (along with, you know, the actual baby).

When you can’t see ml or oz in a bottle, it’s natural to worry. But your baby is actually giving you clear signs that feeding is going well.

Here’s what I look for:
✔️ Wet diapers: At least 6-8 heavy wet diapers per day by day 5
✔️ Dirty diapers: Regular poopy diapers (frequency varies by age)
✔️ Weight gain: Steady growth after the initial newborn weight loss
✔️ Active feeding: You hear swallowing, see rhythmic sucking, and baby seems satisfied after feeds
✔️ Alert and responsive: Baby has good muscle tone and periods of alertness

What I don’t rely on: how your breasts feel, how long baby nurses, or how often baby wants to eat. These can all vary widely and still be completely normal.

If you’re questioning whether your baby is getting enough, we can do a weighted feed to measure exact intake, assess latch and transfer, and create a clear plan forward.

I’m Kelly, a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) based in Granite Bay, serving the greater Sacramento area in person and families nationwide virtually.

You don’t have to wonder or worry alone.

Before you give up on the swaddle, try adjusting the arm position. Here’s what most parents don’t realize: newborns feel secure in a swaddle because it’s what they’ve always known.

Your baby spent months in a natural swaddle in the womb. We’re simply trying to replicate that familiar experience once they’re in the outside world. A swaddled newborn will give you longer stretches of sleep. Not because we’re masking anything, but because we’re providing them a familiar experience where they can actually calm.

Here’s the thing about swaddling:
→ Arm position matters. Try arms folded into their chest. Or a swaddle where arms are up.
→ It’s not a straight jacket, lol. A safe swaddle isn’t too tight, keeps fabric away from baby’s face, and allows good hip movement.
→ Any signs of rolling? Time to transition out of the swaddle for safety.

Also, about that “swaddle fighting” you’re seeing:
Your baby might just be in active sleep. Yes, they’re sleeping. The grunting, squirming, arm movements? That’s a normal sleep pattern for newborns. They’re not actually fighting the swaddle.

We start building sleep hygiene that fits YOUR sleep goals, YOUR parenting style, and is breastfeeding-friendly.

Because I’m an IBCLC, breastfeeding support is always at the forefront of my sleep plans. No cry-it-out. No weaning required. Just strategies that work with your feeding relationship, not against it.

I’m Kelly - RN & IBCLC in Granite Bay, serving Sacramento families in-home and virtually nationwide.
My philosophy: Science + Empathy + Solutions.
