Let’s be real. This financial stress we’re all under? It’s not just pressure — it’s a crisis.

Groceries, rent, gifts, outside — it’s all too much. And I see it everywhere: in my clients, my friends, my own life.

We’re trying to hold it together, while everything is rising except peace of mind and paychecks.
Add in the cold, the dark, the shorter days, the urge to go do something, the fear of missing out, and the guilt of saying “I can’t” or “not this year”...
Y’all. This is real.

This week, I pulled together a breakdown of what’s going on and how to protect your peace andyour pockets this season:
✨ Free + low-cost ways to care for yourself
✨ Creative ways to stay social and connected
✨ Tips to manage money without shame or silence

Because survival isn’t selfish. And you don’t owe anyone what you don’t have.

The world may be in chaos, but you don’t have to be.

Nobody talks about how hard this time of year can be — the shorter days, the colder nights, the quiet that feels a little too heavy.

Seasonal depression (SAD) isn’t just a “winter funk.” It’s your body reacting to real change — in light, temperature, and emotional rhythm.

In this week’s mini-lesson, I’m breaking down what seasonal depression really is, how it impacts your mind and body, and what small things can help you manage it without pretending to be okay.

You’re not lazy. You’re human.

Save this post for when the light starts to fade, and share it with someone who might need a reminder that the dark doesn’t last forever.

Boundaries aren’t about distance — they’re about clarity.

They tell others, “Here’s how to love me without losing yourself.”

In therapy, I see how often people mistake boundaries for rejection.

But healthy boundaries are an act of connection — they make real intimacy possible.

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking at the “Jesus & Therapy Brunch” alongside Mrs. Kimberly Marsh-Murrel, LCMHC, hosted by Elder Amethra Crawford and Harvest Ministries in Wadesboro, NC, and what a powerful experience it was!

We touched on some real conversations—what therapy is (and isn’t), ways the church and therapy can walk together, the stigmas that still exist in minority communities about therapy and what that means about your faith, and how mental health shows up in everyday experiences.

My hope is that everyone walked away knowing that you can prioritize your mental health AND hold on to your faith/spiritual beliefs. The two are not opposites or mutually exclusive—they work together to help us live whole. 🌱

I have the privilege of hosting this AMAZING group where we’ll be talking about what it means to show up as a Black girl, especially in this society.

Make sure you sign up—limited spots available!!!

Black girls are often treated like adults before they’re even teens.
Because society still believes:
💔 “Black girls don’t feel pain like others.”
💔 “Black women are strong — they can take it.”

These harmful beliefs lead to real harm — in schools, healthcare, justice, and everyday life.

That’s why HerStory exists.

✨ To reclaim identity, voice, and healing.
✨ To give Black girls space to feel, express, and be heard.
✨ To offer what many of us didn’t get — softness, support, and reflection.

Why Attend HerStory:

✔️ Identity & confidence-building conversations
✔️ Journaling & storytelling for self-expression
✔️ Hands-on activities that nurture self-worth
✔️ A safe, culturally affirming space — led by a Black mental health counselor
✔️ Meals, materials, and a swag bag included — just $50

Big Sister Syndrome is real.

Being the oldest often means stepping into roles you didn’t choose—second parent, peacemaker, fixer, the one who ‘has it all together.’ But here’s the truth: not everything that landed on your plate was yours to carry.

In therapy, I work with oldest daughters to untangle what’s duty vs. what’s actually theirs to hold. Because being the big sister doesn’t mean being everyone’s everything.

And let’s be real—this isn’t just for biological siblings. In minority communities, we often carry 'big sister' roles with cousins, family friends, or even being the “adopted” sibling in households that weren’t our own. That weight is heavy too.

👉 Swipe through this post to see how Big Sister Syndrome shows up—then ask yourself: which of these do you want to keep, and which are you ready to let go? Comment below! ✨

If this resonates, know you don’t have to navigate it alone. Therapy is one way to step out of the role and into your true self. 💬
