Robert Simon Hoffman

Robert Simon Hoffman: A Life Well-Lived.

Robert Simon Hoffman, or Bob, as he was warmly known by friends and family, completed his journey peacefully on November 6, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 88. Born on January 6, 1937, in New Hampton, Iowa, Bob possessed a rare blend of kindness, profound wisdom, and quiet selflessness that left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

He was the devoted and beloved husband of Dolores Hoffman, and together they built a life rich with laughter and enduring love. Bob was a dedicated father to his son, Michael Hoffman, and is reunited with his late son, Gregory Hoffman. He was predeceased by his brother, William Hoffman, Jr., and his parents, William and Wilma Hoffman. Bob's loving family includes his sister, Janice Pierce (Marvin), his cherished grandsons, Benjamin Hoffman (Christina), Samuel Hoffman (Mary Lauren), and Maxim Hoffman, and his granddaughters, Kayla Hoffman and Kelly Perfater (Ben). He took immense pride in his great-grandchildren: Sydney Perfater, Clark Perfater, Carolina Hoffman, and Mannix Hoffman.

Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Bob leveraged his entrepreneurial vision into a highly successful career as a Taco Bell franchise owner. His business savvy allowed him to nurture and grow his enterprise, eventually establishing a cherished family legacy when he passed the reins to his sons.

Bob’s personal world was filled with rich and varied interests. Reflecting his Iowa upbringing, he had a deep passion for collecting International Harvester Toy Farm Equipment. His love for history was evident in his meticulously kept coin collection, and his creative talents shone through his beautiful woodworking. Additionally, he kept an astute eye on the financial world, trading stocks and collecting precious metals, and enjoyed the occasional "profitable" game of video poker.

Bob Hoffman’s life was a testament to dedication and joy. He was the unshakable pillar of his family, a loyal and trusted friend, and a respected figure in his community. His memory will endure through the flourishing business he founded and, most importantly, through the generations of family he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and forever celebrated.

Karma Kay (Reed) Trease

Karma Kay (Reed) Trease, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. She was 88 years old.

Karma was born on June 24, 1937, in Orchard, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm three-and-a-half miles northwest of Orchard. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1954, and received an associate teaching degree from Wayne State Teacher’s College in Wayne, NE in 1956. She married Lyle Trease on May 24th, 1958 and they moved to Lincoln, NE where they had all three of their children. In 1967, the family moved to Omaha, NE. They moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1978. In 1985, Lyle and Karma moved to Tampa, Florida, where they lived for 34 years, until 2019, when they moved to Duncan, South Carolina, where she lived until her passing.

Karma is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lyle Trease, daughter Pam (Dave) Sjolund, son Mark (Mark Abramovitz) Trease, and daughter Karri (Jeff) Piecora, foster daughter Jann Swearingen, grandchildren Mark Sjolund, Becky (John) Cain, Julie (Ryan) McGirr, Ethan (Lily) Piecora and Kalli Piecora, and great-grandchildren Madilyn and Levi Cain, and Preston, Brooks, and Eli McGirr.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Ray Reed and Edna Mae (Bridge) Reed of Orchard, NE, and her brother, Ronald R Reed (Bonnie) of Des Moines, IA.

In addition to raising a family, she was a school teacher for 2 years and was a Title I teacher in Minneapolis. She groomed dogs for many years out of her home studio in Omaha and Minneapolis. She was the administrative assistant for the regional manager at Pier 1 Imports in Tampa for 11 years. She was an activities director at several senior living facilities for many years, also in Tampa.

Karma’s life was defined by her deep love for Jesus and her unwavering love for people. She delighted in baking, hosting tea parties, celebrating Christmas, traveling, serving both inside and outside of her church, worship and missions, decorating, and turning ordinary moments into something special. She cherished time with her family, found joy in shopping, getting her nails done, and was always ready for a party, no matter the circumstance. She carried herself with effortless elegance—always wearing her signature Revlon “Love That Pink” lipstick.

She was treasured by all who knew her. Karma lived boldly and loved fiercely. She was a fighter—surviving countless medical challenges (including polio), accidents (including being run over by a car in Tampa causing her to be wheelchair bound for over a year), and hardships, with strength and determination. Her passing came as a deep shock to all who loved her, especially because she had overcome so many battles before. In the hours after her homegoing, neighbors came to the door in tears, grieving alongside her family - a testament to the impact she had on everyone around her.

Karma was a force to be reckoned with—graceful, strong, vibrant, and devoted. Her legacy of faith, beauty, and love will continue to shine through her family and all whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, Karma would love for those wishing to honor her to consider donating to a scholarship fund created to help people go on mission trips. Donations may be made at: https://churchatthemill.tpsdb.com/Give/online From the drop-down list of giving options, please select “Acts 1:8 Mission/Scholarship”, which will ensure the funds go directly toward helping individuals participate in mission work.

A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at Church at the Mill, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369.

What Is a True Funeral Home Market Leader in Innovation?

A true market leader in funeral-care innovation is not the firm that simply buys the newest products, prints the trendiest brochures, or mimics what other funeral homes are already doing.
A true innovator is the firm that:

1. Sets the Standard Instead of Following It

They introduce ideas before competitors even recognize the need. They don’t chase the trends—they create them. Their services become the benchmark other funeral homes eventually copy.

2. Innovates with Purpose, Not for Show

Innovation is not a gadget, a slogan, or a piece of technology.
It is the creation of new value: new experiences, new service models, new levels of convenience, new ways of honoring families, new operational efficiencies, and new emotional or cultural relevance.

3. Designs Solutions Exclusively for Their Community

True leaders build offerings tailored to their market’s demographics, values, and needs—rather than purchasing “off-the-shelf” products meant for mass adoption.
They are first movers, not mass adopters.

4. Delivers Experiences Competitors Cannot Replicate

Innovation is measured by uniqueness, defensibility, and impact.
True leaders build programs, digital systems, or service models that:
• competitors cannot easily duplicate,
• require vision and investment, and
• fundamentally elevate the consumer experience.

5. Operate With Transparency, Compassion, and Modern Professionalism

Leaders transform the funeral experience from transactional to meaningful. They bring clarity, trust, simplicity, and dignity at a time when families are overwhelmed.

In short:
A true funeral-service market leader doesn’t ask, “What are others doing?”
They ask, “What do families need next—and how do we build it before anyone else?” Compare the differences in our offerings, transparency and pricing.

It’s why we, “dare to be different!”
