Upstream is excited to announce the launch of a new, peer-led support group, Alternatives to Su***de (Alt2Su)!

Alt2Su is a harm-reduction approach for support groups and conversations around su***de, first developed by the Wildflower Alliance in 2008. Alt2Su groups allow individuals (18+) space where they can talk about anything, including thoughts of wanting to die, without fear of being forced into treatment or involuntary hospitalization. Participants are encouraged to speak from their own experience by using “I” statements and will only be offered advice if they ask for it. This approach helps people explore the context of their experiences with su***de and their reasons for wanting to die in order to work on changing how they relate to their thoughts, emotions, and circumstances.

The hope and plan is to launch this group on Monday, March 2nd at 5:30pm at Upstream's office in Greenwood - but you can watch here and on Upstream's calendar to see when it officially launches (upstreamprevention.org/calendar)

For every death by su***de, an average of 11 individuals have devastating impacts on their lives. ATLAS is a team a volunteers that connect with su***de loss survivors to link them to resources and remind them they are not alone. Interested in volunteering to be a part of this team?
