As temperatures drop, so does the moisture in the air and your eyes can feel it! Winter weather can make dry eye symptoms flare up, but here’s why it happens and how to find relief:
Why does cold weather cause dry eye? 👀
• Lower humidity outside reduces the moisture on the surface of your eyes
• Cold wind quickly evaporates natural tears
• Indoor heat (like furnaces & space heaters) dries out the air even more
• Less blinking when you’re cold or on digital devices makes dryness worse
❄️ How to help:
• Use artificial tears to maintain moisture
• Wear protective eyewear like wrap-around glasses when outdoors
• Run a humidifier indoors to add moisture back into the air
• Take screen breaks to help you blink more often
• Stay hydrated because your eyes need water too!
• Schedule an eye exam if your symptoms persist or worsen
Your eyes work hard all year long, give them a little extra care this season!
