Spring is finally here — a season of renewal, growth, and new beginnings.
Happy Spring, Happy Easter, and Happy Holy Week to you and your family.
This time of year always reminds me how quickly children grow and how important it is to support their development along the way.
One of my favorite parts of practice is caring for infants and children as their nervous systems develop and mature. The spine and nervous system play a major role in posture, coordination, digestion, sleep patterns, immune function, and the body’s ability to adapt to the world around us.
Children experience many physical stresses as they grow — learning to crawl, walk, run, climb, and tumble through life. Even small bumps, falls, and posture habits can influence how the spine and nervous system communicate with the rest of the body.
Gentle chiropractic care, especially focused on the upper cervical spine, helps support healthy neurological communication during these important stages of development.
Supporting Children with Total Body Modification (TBM)
Along with upper cervical chiropractic care, our office also uses a system called Total Body Modification (TBM).
TBM evaluates how different body systems are communicating with the nervous system. The goal is to help identify areas of stress and assist the body in resetting those patterns so it can function more efficiently.
Parents often seek TBM when their children struggle with patterns such as:
• seasonal or chronic allergies
• breathing challenges
• digestive stress
• constipation
• sleep disturbances
• immune system challenges
When the nervous system is balanced and communication improves, many parents report meaningful improvements in their children’s overall well-being.
Why Allergies in Children Are Increasing
Over the last several decades, allergies in children have increased dramatically.
Researchers believe several factors may contribute:
• increased environmental stressors
• changes in diet and food quality
• microbiome disruption
• immune system overload
• chronic nervous system stress
When the body is overwhelmed by stress, it can become more reactive to everyday triggers such as pollen, dust, foods, or environmental irritants.
Supporting the nervous system helps the body better regulate immune responses and adapt to the environment.
A Parent’s Experience with TBM
One mother recently shared her experience after bringing two of her children into the office:
“I can’t say enough about TBM with Dr. Spackman — it’s truly remarkable. He’s helped two of my children with both chronic and acute issues.
My daughter had allergic asthma and needed allergy medicine and an inhaler every single day just to control a constant cough. It was exhausting for her and stressful for me. After just one week of TBM sessions she was able to stop her medications, and after two weeks the cough completely stopped. It’s been more than six months and it hasn’t returned. Her quality of life is so much better.
My baby also struggled with chronic constipation starting at two months old. Other treatments would help temporarily, but the problem kept coming back. After a few TBM sessions the intolerances causing the issue were addressed, and he has been doing great for six months.
He also had congestion in his lungs this past winter that sounded rattly with every breath. After one TBM session he was about 90% improved, and after two sessions he was completely back to normal.
We even addressed his sleep. At ten months old he was waking frequently throughout the night. After a session focused on his circadian rhythm and an atlas adjustment, he began sleeping from 7 pm to 7 am.
I’ve explored many alternative health approaches over the years, and TBM has been the most immediately effective for my family.”
How TBM Helps the Body Adapt
Think of the body like a highly intelligent biocomputer.
Sometimes certain systems can become stressed or “offline.”
TBM helps identify those patterns and assists the body in resetting them so normal function can return.
When the nervous system and body systems are communicating well, the body is far better able to:
• regulate immune responses
• process environmental stress
• support digestion and nutrient absorption
• maintain healthy sleep cycles
• adapt to seasonal challenges
Balanced Nervous System → Better Communication → Better Adaptation
When the nervous system functions well, the body is better able to adapt to the stresses of everyday life.
At Awakening Life Chiropractic Upper Cervical Health Center, our goal is to support the nervous system so the body can function the way it was designed to.
If you have questions about pediatric chiropractic care, TBM, or your family’s health, we are always happy to help.
