đź’› Exploring Emotions in ABA đź’›

Understanding emotions is a big skill — and for many children, it’s something that needs to be taught, modeled, and practiced.

At Galliant, we help children:
✨ Identify their feelings (happy, frustrated, nervous, excited)
✨ Recognize emotions in others
✨ Connect feelings to situations
✨ Learn safe and appropriate ways to express themselves

Through play, visuals, role-play, and real-life moments, we turn everyday situations into learning opportunities. When children can label and understand their emotions, they gain confidence, improve communication, and build stronger relationships.

Big feelings aren’t “bad” — they’re opportunities to grow. 💬💙

The groundhog may have predicted six more weeks of winter, but families shouldn’t have to wait that long for an autism evaluation.

At Galliant, we know how important early intervention is. That’s why we partner with leading psychologists and diagnosticians to offer comprehensive ADOS-2 autism evaluations within just 2 weeks, helping families move forward sooner with clarity and support.

From an initial evaluation with one of our trusted partners, to an assessment with one of our experienced BCBAs, and onward to our assent-based ABA therapy services, we walk alongside families every step of the way—no groundhog required.

If you have questions about autism evaluations or what comes next, our team is here to help make the journey clearer and less overwhelming. https://www.galliantcare.com/autism-testing

Honoring Black History Month in ABA

This month, we celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black leaders, families, and professionals who have shaped our communities — including the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Black children and families deserve equitable access to autism services, culturally responsive care, and providers who see, hear, and understand them. Representation matters. Advocacy matters. Listening matters.

As behavior analysts and practitioners, we commit to:
✨ Providing culturally competent support
✨ Continuing to learn from diverse voices
✨ Creating inclusive spaces where every child can thrive

Black history is American history. And in ABA, we recognize that diversity strengthens the care we provide every single day.

Music books + ABA = learning magic ✨

Music books are such a powerful tool in ABA! They naturally grab attention, build motivation, and turn learning into something fun and engaging. 🎵📚

Using music books can help support:
• Language development (labels, requests, imitation)
• Joint attention & engagement
• Following directions
• Turn-taking and social interaction
• Transitions and regulation

The rhythm, repetition, and predictable patterns make skills easier to learn—and easier to remember! Plus, when learning feels like play, progress happens faster.

Music isn’t just fun… it’s a bridge to communication and connection. 💙

✂️ Helping Kids Feel Successful With Haircuts ✂️

This week we have had several haircuts throughout the clinic!

For many children, haircuts can be stressful—new environments, unfamiliar sounds, and sensory input can feel overwhelming. At Galliant, we break this big experience into small, achievable steps to help children feel safe, confident, and in control.

✨ How we support haircut success:

• Practicing with visual schedules and social stories

• Gradually introducing tools like clippers, spray bottles, and capes

• Teaching coping and communication skills (asking for breaks, using visuals or words)

• Using positive reinforcement to celebrate progress

• Collaborating with families to generalize skills to the salon or home

Success doesn’t always mean finishing a full haircut. Sometimes it’s tolerating the cape, sitting calmly, or staying regulated for a few extra minutes—and every step counts.

💙 Our goal is dignity, comfort, and confidence—one snip at a time!

🧣 Navigating Cold & Flu Season with Autism ❄️

Cold and flu season can be especially challenging for individuals with autism. Changes in routine, discomfort from illness, and sensory sensitivities can make this time of year overwhelming. Galliant helps support our clients and families by focusing on predictability, skill-building, and individualized care.

✔️ Teaching hygiene routines (handwashing, tissue use, covering coughs) through modeling and reinforcement
✔️ Using visual supports and social stories to prepare for changes or staying home when sick
✔️ Providing sensory supports to help with regulation when the body doesn’t feel well
✔️ Reinforcing flexibility and coping skills during routine disruptions
✔️ Partnering with families to promote consistency across environments

✨ Small supports can make a big difference in helping children stay healthy, regulated, and confident during cold and flu season.

Imaginative play isn’t just fun—it’s powerful learning! When children pretend to be superheroes, they’re practicing critical developmental skills in a motivating and meaningful way.

✨ How superhero play supports growth:
• Communication: Creating stories, giving “missions,” and using descriptive language
• Social Skills: Turn-taking, role-play, cooperation, and perspective-taking
• Emotional Regulation: Acting out big feelings in a safe, playful way
• Motor Skills: Running, jumping, climbing, and coordinating movements
• Confidence & Self-Advocacy: Feeling strong, brave, and capable

In ABA therapy, we use each child’s interests—like superheroes—to build skills naturally through play. When learning feels fun, progress follows! 💥

🦹‍♀️ Every child is a hero in their own journey.
