In May of 2019, the Michigan State Legislature enacted Public Acts 21 & 22. The devastation of this poorly thought out law is now coming into full view! I wanted to share an update on the impact of these laws on the rehabilitation provider community. The insurance industry is using this law to decimate the rehabilitation community! Through complicated and undefined review processes many provider’s bills are simply just not being paid. This lack of reimbursement over time will obviously lead to the demise of any organization.

There is a belief that these 4 individuals are responsible for keeping the law from being fixed:
• Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, 517-373-5932

• R Kevin Clinton, Executive Director, Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, 734-953-2779
• Anita Fox, Director of the Department of Insurance and Financial Services, State of Michigan, 517-284-8800

Hopefully leaders will emerge in Lansing, but until they do, if you are a provider, I ask that you please contact the aforementioned individuals, and let them know you are outraged!
