****ANNOUNCEMENT****

As of October 1, 2025, New Alabama law for the age of medical consent.
⚕️⚕️🏥➡️Minors must now be 16 years old (previously 14) to consent to their own medical, dental, or mental health treatment.
🚑🏥💊➡️ Patients under 16 will need parent/guardian consent for care.
🩺🚒⚕️➡️ Exceptions: In certain cases (such as pregnancy, treatment for sexually transmitted infections, or substance use issues), minors may still be able to consent without a parent.
🩺🚒⚕️** If younger than 16 your child must be present with an adult 18 or older and be listed on the parent delegation.

We want our patients and families to be aware of these changes so there are no surprises when seeking medical care.

‼️‼️BEYFORTUS INFORMATION‼️‼️

We are getting lots of questions about Beyfortus. We hope this will help.

Beyfortus can help prevent serious lung infections, like pneumonia caused by RSV, in babies under 1 year of age born during or entering their first RSV season. Beyfortus can Reduce the chance of needing medical care due to RSV. This can include trips to the doctor, urgent care, ER, or hospital.

How Beyfortus works- similar to Synagis.
Beyfortus is a preventative antibody that gives babies the protection against RSV they lack. Antibodies are made naturally by our immune system to fight viruses. But a baby’s immune system might not be strong enough by itself to make enough antibodies to fight RSV. This is where preventative antibodies can add more protection. Beyfortus may not protect all children. Beyfortus is not a vaccine.

Who gets Beyfortus- If the mother received Abrysvo while pregnant between 32 through 36 weeks gestational age of pregnancy your newborn may not need Beyfortus.
Depending on when they're born, your baby can receive Beyfortus at birth or at a regular checkup during or entering their first RSV season.

INDICATION
Beyfortus is a prescription medicine used to help prevent a serious lung disease caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in:

* Newborns and babies under 1 year of age born during or entering their first RSV season.
* Children up to 24 months of age who remain at risk of severe RSV disease through their second RSV season.

We would like to welcome Joseph Warren to our office!

He is a 3rd year medical student at ACOM (Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine).
Joesph loves emergency medicine.
In his spare time he loves practicing archery 🏹, camping 🏕️ and hiking.

He will be with Dr. Jones for the this month to learn more about pediatrics.

Everyone welcome Alexandria Henderson. She will be at our office over the next few months with Alaina!

She is a 2014 graduate of Guntersville High School. She earned her Associate Degree in Science from Snead State Community College in 2015, then attended Auburn University before completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Auburn University at Montgomery in 2019. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a focus on advanced practice nursing.

Since graduating, Alexandria has dedicated her career to pediatrics, serving in several of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals across the United States. Her experiences span caring for children with complex cardiac conditions in intensive care settings to supporting patients and families in post-operative and step-down units. These opportunities have strengthened her skills while affirming her passion for providing excellent pediatric care.

Alexandria is married to her husband, Josh Barhorst, and together they have one daughter. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys reading, boxing, and serving in her church community. She shares often that she is only able to pursue this calling through God’s blessings over her life.

Above all, Alexandria strives to provide compassionate, individualized care to every patient and family she encounters. Her passion for pediatrics and her commitment to service guide her each day as she continues her journey toward her calling as a Primary Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
