🌄 Why Rural Health Matters and Why NERHA Needs You
As we continue to countdown to National Rural Health Day, we’re uplifting the realities facing rural communities across all six New England states and the work NERHA is doing to address them.
1 in 5 New Englanders live in rural areas, many facing:
• 2+ hour travel times for primary care
• Limited access to specialists, obstetric, and maternal services
• Higher rates of chronic disease and mental health needs
• Workforce shortages across the healthcare system
For over 25 years, the New England Rural Health Association (NERHA) has led the region in strengthening rural health through training, technical assistance, advocacy, outreach, scholarships, and multi-state collaboration.
Our Impact:
• 550+ members
• 5,500+ rural health professionals on our mailing list
• 100+ partner organizations
• 300+ communities impacted
• 10,000+ people served through NERHA programs
• New England’s largest rural health conference (400+ attendees)
We support statewide rural health collaboratives, climate and environmental TA programs, training pipelines, hospital workforce efforts, vaccine outreach, rural maternal emergency training, and much more.
