I am proud, yet very humbled, to share the following review of our Foot Care Nurse Training Program from one of our recent participants:
"After nearly 30 years in healthcare—first as a CNA and now as an RN—I had always been told one thing: "Never touch toenails." It was an unspoken rule, ingrained in my training and reinforced by years of practice. Foot care was seen as off-limits, risky, even taboo. So, when I learned that, yes, nurses can safely and effectively provide foot care, it was a complete paradigm shift for me.
I had been considering Heather's Fundamental Foot Care course for a few years. When I finally enrolled, I discovered not only a wealth of knowledge but a new way to care for my patients that I hadn't fully realized before. The training I received over the course of that week was exceptional. Heather's instruction helped me build the confidence, skills, and clinical insight needed to assess and care for feet—something that can have a life-changing impact on our patients.
Foot care is more than just nail trimming. As nurses, we are trained to recognize early signs of infection, circulatory issues, and other health concerns. With proper foot care training, we can intervene early, educate patients and families, and refer them to primary care providers before issues escalate. This proactive care truly aligns with holistic nursing.
The most rewarding moments came when patients and their family members expressed overwhelming gratitude for something as simple as a thorough nail trim. It reminded me why I became a nurse in the first place—and how expanding my scope of practice in this way allows me to serve more fully.
Thanks to Heather's program, I now feel confident, prepared, and inspired to sit for my certification exam. More importantly, I feel ready to bring this essential service to my patients, helping to improve not just their foot health, but their overall quality of life.
I'm incredibly thankful I took this step forward in my career.
Best,
Melissa Boudreau, RN"
