Winter in Maine means heavy boots, cold floors, and dry air, all of which can take a toll on your feet. Dry, cracked skin, thickened nails, and circulation issues are common this time of year, especially for seniors and those with diabetes.

Professional foot care during the winter helps keep skin healthy, nails properly trimmed, and small issues from turning into painful problems. Healthy feet support balance, mobility, and confidence, even on icy days.

If your feet are feeling the effects of winter, we're here to help.

Call to schedule an appointment and step into the season with comfort and care.

Today we recognize National Caregivers Day and the quiet strength behind so many healthy steps.

Caregivers help loved ones stay comfortable, mobile, and confident. We support that work with services like nail trimming and filing, callus and corn reduction, thick nail debridement, and careful monitoring for signs of infection or ulcers.

To every caregiver, thank you for all you do.

Last month, we received this thoughtful message from a patient, and just had to share it:

ā€œI had a very pleasant visit today with Leah. She not only fixed my feet but was a great conversationalist while she did it. It’s nice to be treated with respect by people who truly enjoy what they do. I’m so glad I was introduced to Fundamental Foot Care when they were just starting. They are the best!ā€

Thank you to A.M. for sharing such meaningful feedback, and thank you, Leah, for bringing compassion, skill, and genuine care to every visit. You are a beautiful reflection of what Fundamental Foot Care is all about.

If you, or someone you know, are looking to experience the same level of care, give us a call at (207) 991-0141 or email info@fundamentalfootcare.com

One of the hardest parts of navigating senior care isn’t the decisions—it’s the expectations.
Families do what they’re supposed to do.
They research retirement communities.
They call home care agencies.
They plan ahead.
They expect that when care is needed, the services will be there.
In many states, that’s still true.
In Maine, it often isn’t.
What I see far too often is this:
Families encounter real system breakdowns—limited staffing, unavailable services, long waits—and instead of recognizing a structural problem, they blame themselves.
ā€œI should have planned better.ā€
ā€œI must have missed something.ā€
ā€œI waited too long.ā€
You didn’t fail.
The system is under strain.
Understanding what Maine’s care landscape can realistically provide is the first step toward making decisions that protect your loved one—and your peace of mind.
Clear expectations don’t solve everything.
But they stop families from carrying blame that was never theirs to begin with.
Understanding what Maine’s care landscape can realistically provide isn’t pessimism.
It’s protection.
