When I started this blog, I hadn't paid for yoga in nearly five years. I studied with most of the best asana and meditation teachers in the world. In fact, amazing teachers came to my office to teach me (for free) every day. All I had to do was walk down the hall, and sometimes I chose not to because I didn't feel like it or because I didn't care for a particular teacher's specialty. Basically, I'm a spoiled, bratty, privileged yogi. Isn't that an oxymoron, you may ask? Ummm, yeah! But then, I had an epiphany. As I was walking down the street to my cushy job, I thought to myself:

"Isn't the whole point of a yoga practice to live in the present? If you're a yogi, shouldn't you be content? You should be blissed out and healthy and praising Krishna for all your amazing blessings! What the hell is wrong with you? Wait, nothing is wrong with me, yoga philosophy says I am a spark of the Divine . . . so I'm kind of perfect. But really, I'm a total screwed up mess . . . Or am I?"

I'm human, which is what this blog is all about. I decided to get back to the basics and approach my yoga as the gift I know in my heart it is. Each day, I'll commit to practice yoga—sometimes alone, sometimes in a studio. I'll meditate (a lot!), and I'll contemplate just what makes me really worthy to be a spark of the Divine. And I'll share with you things that inspire me to keep going even when it seems like everything in my life is conspiring against me. (Yes, I'm spoiled AND dramatic!)

Oh yeah, and I'll blog about it everyday, too. I'm tired just thinking about it. . .

Calling all Mindful Mummies and Daddies!

Bring your little pumpkin (all ages welcome) to the park for a fun kid-friend fall-themed yoga class.
We'll learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin, pretend to be trees losing their leaves, and lots more fun movement. Then, we'll learn a mindfulness exercise to help us all remember how to breathe deep and be present.

Here's what you'll get:
🍂 Learn kid-friendly mindfulness techniques to help you regulate those BIG emotions that kids (and parents!) feel.
🎃 Get out those wiggles! You'll learn yoga poses that will feel like play, but help your little one burn off extra energy and calm their nervous systems quickly.
🍂 Both parents and pumpkins will leave feeling calm, centered, and ready to face Monday.

$25 per family
(Or ask me about my new unlimited yoga offering for $55/month.)

Pre-registration is required.

📸 PLUS! 📸 The amazingly talented photographer Kayla Vaughters will be there to snap a few fall photos in front of the fall scenery. She's offering an AMAZING deal just for us -- Two photos for $15 with the option to buy more.

SAVE for LATER! 🙌

Have you ever felt stressed to the max... and then you come across a list of self-care to-do's that is so unrealistic it made you want to scream? ⠀

Me too. ⠀

I love bubble baths and massages as much as the next gal, but when I'm so busy I'm struggling to find time to remember to eat... the idea that I need to call up a massage therapist to make an appointment is laughable. ⠀

Nope. ⠀

There should be a different standard of self-care for when times are crazy—like when you have little children who need every ounce of your time and attention... or when someone in your family is sick... or when you're short-staffed at work.... Etc. ⠀

Scroll through to see my Survival Self-Care list. ⠀

Then don't forget to comment below and tell me what's on your list! 👇

(I won't judge you if you type bubble baths 🛀, but I WILL be jealous.)

I got to share yoga with my girls and their friends at their Girl Scout meeting today, and it was so much fun!

There was a little more giggling than most of the yoga classes I teach…. But if you’ve ever been to one of my classes you know that I encourage giggling even when I’m teaching adults.

I’m always amazed at how capable little ones are of slowing down and being mindful if you give them the chance.

❤️❤️❤️

I played volleyball in high school.

That’s right. All 5 feet and 2.5 inches of me (with shoes on).

I joke that I use the word “played” loosely, as I mostly just sat on the bench and cheered on my friends.

My height was a good excuse for my lackluster performance.

Here’s the truth: When I was in the flow and having fun, I was pretty good. (Not at the whole jumping up to block balls flying over the net part, obviously, but the scrappy defensive part of the game.)

Unfortunately, those moments of flow and fun were few and far between.

I wanted so badly to impress my coach and help us win games that I put an insane amount of pressure on myself. I choked--I missed serves and sent balls flying in the wrong direction. With each blunder, my confidence shattered and I’d mess up again and again and again.

When I took my first yoga class a few years later I loved it so much because there was absolutely no pressure to perform. I could just show up, move my body, and enjoy it. My confidence rebounded as I learned to practice poses that once seemed impossible.

I learned that there actually is such a thing as trying too hard…

If I could go back and teach my teenage self one thing, that would be it.

It’s a lesson I’m learning all over again now as I am a grown up with two growing businesses.

🌟The most inspired work comes from flow and fun, never from forcing or pushing.
🌟Hard work and planning will never overcompensate for a lack of confidence.
🌟Mistakes only become a big deal when we ruminate on them--that’s when they break us.

Whatever your struggle is today, try softening. Stop trying so hard, and see what emerges.

That’s what I’ll be doing!

I have days when I feel like I could be swallowed up by my to-do list...

There's the things I feel like I HAVE to do:
✅work meetings
✅kid chauffeuring
✅meals and dishes and laundry
✅deadlines
✅Etc. (You don't want the details do you?)

Then there's the things I WANT to do...
✅family time
✅checking in with friends
✅reading, creating, learning
✅rest

And I have tried EVERYTHING from bullet journaling to online project management systems to keep track of it all. (That becomes a whole new task of it's own... alas.)

As much as I love ALL of it (I believe it was who coined the term "multi-passionate" and it describes me well!), sometimes I can just tell I need to take a step back. I don't need to add more things to my to-do list.

I need to UNdo.

I crave quiet, reflection, alone time, deep breaths. I want to stop doing and just BE.

My tendency, of course, is to put even THIS on my to-do list. The irony is not lost on me. It can be SO hard to undo our conditioning to go-go-go every moment of every day, even when you're ware of it. But this is why we do the practice.

What's your favorite way to UNdo?
