Just some thoughts because social media is making me 🤯🤯🤯🤯

If you’re angry about the cuts to SNAP and want to help our neighbors in need, here are a few ideas:

1. Donate money to your local food pantries - they can stretch your dollar further than you can at the grocery store (my first RD job was at a food bank helping people access SNAP benefits and I know firsthand that this is true)
2. Check the website (or call!) your local food pantry to see if they have a list shared of their most needed items - if you’re going to donate goods, this is a great way to make sure you’re making the most impact.
3. Contact your local school administrator/PTA to see if there’s a program in place that sends food home with students on weekends/provides snacks in school (my town has a program like this and has a list of their most needed items - super easy way to help your local families)
4. Check your local buy nothing/parenting groups - I’ve seen *so many* posts recently of people coordinating efforts to feed our neighbors whether that’s cooking a meal, buying groceries, or donating in other ways
5. Volunteer with Lasagna Love or another organization that allows you to cook a homemade meal and finds a family in need to drop it to - I volunteered with them for years and it’s such a nice way to help folks in need

I would love to hear if you have other ideas ⬇️

If you are a nutrition professional, you should be taking about how unacceptable it is that 42 million people (including about 25% of children in this country) are going to struggle to put food on the table next week. It is unconscionable in a country that funds wars, gold ballrooms, and kidnapping immigrants off the street.

If you’re a person who doesn’t participate in SNAP, consider donating even $10 to your local food pantry this week. They can turn that into at least a couple of meals for families. Make a meal for a friend who may be struggling. And make sure your representatives know how angry you are and how that will impact your vote next election (which is, let’s face it, the only thing they care about).

I keep hearing this ad so just a reminder for whoever needs to hear it. A culture that glorifies thinness, whiteness, youth, ableism, etc will never let you rest. There will always be some way your body isn’t measuring up. You don’t have to buy into the BS ✋🏼

My body did a cool thing last week and now Finley is here 🥹

I have no words for the last five days, at least not yet but wanted to share with you all that I am officially on maternity leave. I have no idea how I’ll be showing up here over the next few months or to what extent I’ll be sharing him here (but believe me - I’m biased but he is maybe the cutest baby of all time????) and I appreciate your patience as I figure it out. I also so appreciate the understanding and excitement from my clients that I frantically emailed from my hospital bed in early labor that I had to cancel their last sessions last week (first babies always go late, they said! Starting maternity leave at 38 weeks is plenty of time, they said!)

I also appreciate what I know will be the kind responses and messages I get here 🤍 I may not be able to answer them all but know they mean so much.

And to answer everyone’s number one question: the cats are, surprisingly, doing great with their new brother. Neither seems particularly concerned with his noises. Pickles did try to step on him during a feeding this morning but otherwise has been good and patient and likes to sleep nearby while we snuggle & eat 💕

CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE WHO HATE ME by Dylon Marron ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was one of the best books I read this year - I finished it over a month ago and am still thinking about it, especially as I (continue to) navigate being a human on the internet. The way speaks about empathy and understanding in the context of social media and the internet is truly a gift. He explores trolling and cancelling and general internet yelling in a way that is thoughtful and cautious and curious. In the least creepy way possible, I would like to live in the well of compassion where Dylan Marron is operating from.

If you’ve read it (or listened to the podcast it was named after - I never listened, only saw the book recommended by one of my all time favorite comedians and decided to give it a try), I would love to hear what you thought!

Oh my goodness, hi!!!! 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 it’s been awhile since I showed my face around here or done much of anything around here except for share pictures of my cats and talk about Love is Blind. If you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been here for awhile, I missed you!

If you don’t know me, I’m Meghan. I’m a fat positive & anti-diet dietitian pushing back against oppressive ideas about health & wellness. I work with people looking to have more peace in their relationship with food, whether that’s recovery from an eating disorder or unlearning decades of diet culture noise. I have a virtual private practice based out of Massachusetts (I’m on the south shore) but work with people from all over.

I love to talk about weight stigma, diet culture, food, politics, and my cats. If you’ve ever looked at my stories, you’ve probably seen Potato & Pickles. They are the loves of my life (in addition to my partner of 10 years and now husband 🤣).

Other fun facts: I love to read and finish a book most weeks at least. I love bread and cheese and good coffee. I’m a Leo but not a very Leo-y Leo (Libra rising, Sag moon if you’re curious). I’m almost always rewatching New Girl or Friends or Schitt’s Creek or Parks & Rec. I am a lifelong New Englander. There are few things I love more than a cozy outfit. I like crossword puzzles and cooking and walks outside while listening to a (usually true crime) podcast.

And I just got this beautiful new logo from that I’m so excited to start incorporating on all my things. My tiny little solo practice is growing up 🥲

Your turn- share a fun fact about yourself or say hi in the comments!

I found this saved in the depths of my notes app from 2018 which means it’s probably been a caption somewhere on this page (if you can find the original post, you win! Just kidding, don’t waste your time doing that). There’s a lot of things I do differently or think about differently than I did earlier in my career but this holds up entirely. Keep going ✨
