Congrats to our latest DAISY Award recipient, Holida, RN! Her nomination reads:

"Outstanding! The epitome of a caring professional informed nurse that genuinely cares about her patients. Her compassion and empathy shine through in her care for her patients. The bedside manner she displayed my first night there helped eliminate so much anxiety (I have PTSD)... She has the same calming bedside manner my mother had as a nurse. I wish I could take her with me!"

Cold air outside and dry heat inside can leave your skin feeling tight, itchy and uncomfortable. Here are some simple ways to protect and soothe your skin this winter:

• Moisturize often. Apply a thick, fragrance-free cream or ointment right after showering to lock in moisture.
• Keep showers short and lukewarm. Hot water strips your skin’s natural oils.
• Use a humidifier. Adding moisture to the air can help prevent dryness.
• Wear soft fabrics. Avoid wool or rough materials directly on your skin.
• Stay hydrated and eat well. A balanced diet helps nourish skin from the inside out.

If your skin becomes cracked, painful or doesn’t improve, it may be time to talk with a primary care provider (P*P). Need help finding a P*P? Visit the link in the comments to schedule an appointment.

As the days get shorter and sunlight fades, many people notice changes in mood, energy and sleep.

You’re not alone — these could be signs of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression linked to changes in seasons.

There are things you can try to ease the winter blues, like getting sunlight or using a light box, staying active, staying connected and prioritizing sleep and routine, but sometimes you need to ask for help. Talking to a primary care provider (P*P) can help you find the right support or treatment. To find a P*P and schedule an appointment, visit the link below or call 254-618-1020.
