I started out on a journey 10 years ago working toward becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and National Board Certified Counselor with a vision for opening my own private practice to use the gifts and talents I feel God has blessed me with. This dream has come to pass with the official opening of Dayspring Counseling Services, LLC. I draw upon a number of therapeutic methods to develop a treatment program that will be carefully tailored to my client’s needs and goals. To offer these different treatment methods I also added on the following certifications: Batter Intervention Provider (working with domestic violence offenders, victims, and families); EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) using horses in psychotherapy; and as Juvenile S*x Offender Treatment Provider. I welcome all ages; however, my target population is adolescents and their families. I offer individual, family, and group therapy; addressing: behavioral, emotional, school issues; family conflict; depression; anxiety; anger management; grief counseling; career counseling; substance abuse; sexual abuse; and any other need for support during stressors. Dayspring conducts traditional counseling settings, offering home-based services, but also offers Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Outdoor/Adventure Based Counseling. The use of equine therapy provides a vast opportunity for metaphorical learning, proven an effective technique when working with even the most challenging individuals or groups. Horses require us to work, whether in caring for them or working with them in an era where immediate gratification and the “easy way” are the norm; horses require people to be engaged in physical and mental work to be successful, valuable lessons in all aspects of life. Equine therapy is centered on metaphors that mirror real life on many levels and is used to raise awareness of issues the individual carries. As these issues arise with the equine setting they have an in-vivo (gradual exposure to anxiety to triggers) opportunity to work through the issues they are carrying. Using horses in therapy increases confidence and self-esteem; helps build teamwork, communication and problem solving. The EAGALA model is all groundwork. These sessions are not about teaching horsemanship, the horse is not controlled under the saddle or bridle, which allows a natural communication between the client and horse. Outdoor/Adventure Based Counseling emphasizes on personal growth in areas of self-knowledge and confidence. Therapeutic benefits include establishing a deeper connection with the natural world and the balance it offers. Various outdoor sessions will be available (including hiking and kayaking, etc.). My desire to break away from the “cookie cutter” counseling sessions and offer opportunities for deeper authentic connections and self discovery. I accept most all insurance both Medicaid and Private
