Although it was a short week, it was a wonderful one in the Cub Club as we learned all about weather! ☀️❄️🌈

We explored different types of weather and even experienced a little bit of everything—from snow to sunshine! The cubs stayed busy creating rainbows, making rain clouds in jars, and investigating funnel clouds using bottles.

We also had some St. Patrick’s Day fun with our leprechaun rocks! 🍀

Exciting signs of spring are all around us! We planted tomato seeds with 4-H and celebrated as our chicks finally hatched—such a special moment for our cubs! 🐣🌱

To wrap up the week, we decorated our own cupcakes to look like clouds and rainbows—such a fun (and tasty!) way to end our learning.

There is so much fun and learning happening here at the Cub Club! 💛

It’s been an EGG-citing day in the Cub Club! 🐣💛

With help from Harlan County 4-H, our cubs got to experience the magic of watching real chicks hatch! 🐥✨

This hands-on learning experience helped us explore life cycles, patience, and caring for living things. So many smiles, squeals, and sweet memories were made as we tracked their development the past 21 days.

The Cub Club is in full bloom! 🐻🌱

It’s been another fun week in the Cub Club learning about plants! 🌱 🌺 The cubs learned about the different parts of a plant, how plants and humans are both living things, and what plants need to grow and thrive.

We took advantage of the beautiful weather and went outside to explore the different plants growing around the Cub Club. The students loved observing nature up close! To wrap up our learning, we even made our own mini greenhouses by planting grass seed. Thanks Mrs. Sarah for visiting and helping. Now we can’t wait to watch our plants grow! 🌿🌞

Today we celebrated 100 days of PreK in the Cub Club! 💯🐻

Our Cubs had a beary fun day celebrating this big milestone. We started by reading a special book all about the 100th day of school and proudly added our 100th link to our classroom chain. The fun continued as students made 100th Day crowns, decorated gumball machines with 100 dots, and created necklaces using 100 Froot Loops. We even got up and danced while we counted all the way to 100! 🎉

To make the day even more special, we welcomed a wonderful guest — Ms. Jill from Harlan Yoga Studio! 🧘‍♀️ The Cubs had such a great time stretching, moving, and pretending to be different animals during yoga. We are so thankful she took time out of her day to visit our class and share such a fun and relaxing activity with our students. Experiences like this make learning even more memorable!

It’s hard to believe how much our Cubs have grown in just 100 days. From the first day of school until now, they’ve learned so much, built friendships, and grown more confident every day. We are so proud of each and every one of them and can’t wait to see all they continue to accomplish during the rest of the year! 🐻❤️

📚🎩 Read Across America – Day 4 at the Cub Club! 🎩📚

What a fun and busy day we had celebrating our love of reading! Yesterday we dove into the classic Cat in the Hat, and the cubs had a blast making a special name craft to go along with the story.

We were also lucky to have our very special class friend, Mr. Jeff Phillips, come visit us! The cubs absolutely love when Mr. Jeff stops by. He read Let’s Be Enemies and Snipp, Snap, Snurr, and the Gingerbread. To make the visit even sweeter, he surprised the cubs with delicious gingerbread man cookies. 🍪 The smiles said it all!

Later, we read The Butter Battle Book and then rolled up our sleeves for a hands-on activity. The cubs worked hard to make their very own butter in the classroom. There was lots of shake, shake, shaking, but everyone had a great time watching their hard work turn into butter!

After all that effort, we sat down together and enjoyed our freshly made butter on toast with jelly. 🧈🍞

Another wonderful day of stories, learning, and laughter at the Cub Club!

Cub Club Celebrates Dr. Seuss Literacy Night! 📚🎉

The Harlan County Child Development Center – Home of the Cub Club recently hosted a fun-filled Dr. Seuss Literacy Night, and it was truly a night to remember!

Our Cub Club students proudly shared animal fun facts they learned from the classic Dr. Seuss book If I Ran the Zoo. Families enjoyed hearing the children talk about the imaginative animals from the story while celebrating the joy of reading and learning together.

Throughout the evening, students and families participated in exciting games and Seuss-themed activities that brought the colorful world of Dr. Seuss to life. From hands-on learning stations to playful challenges, the room was full of laughter, creativity, and smiles.

Of course, no Seuss celebration would be complete without some delicious themed treats! Guests enjoyed fun snacks such as “Hop on Pop” popcorn, “Oh the Places You’ll Go-gurt,” Lorax cheese puffs, Seuss cupcakes, Fruit by the Foot, and Seuss Juice. Thank you James A Cawood Frysc and Leah Coots for the delicious snacks!

We would like to thank all of our wonderful families for coming out and supporting literacy at the Cub Club. Events like this help build a love of reading while creating special memories for our students.

At the Harlan County Child Development Center, we are proud to create learning experiences that are fun, engaging, and full of imagination—just like Dr. Seuss himself!

Day 3 of Read Across America Week was BUSY, busy, busy… but oh so much fun! 📚💚

We kicked off our morning with green eggs and ham for breakfast while enjoying an animated read aloud of Green Eggs and Ham by Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Karst. The cubs thought it was the perfect (and very silly!) way to start the day.

Next came graduation pictures — definitely a bittersweet moment. It’s hard to believe how quickly this year is flying by! 🎓🐻

We were also so excited to welcome Trooper Shane Jacobs, who read Fox in Socks. The kiddos absolutely loved his humor and the way he brought the story to life. There were lots of giggles during those tricky tongue twisters!

And then… our most special reader of the day. 💛
While we have loved and appreciated every single guest who has visited us this week, today’s final reader might just hold a tiny extra place in our hearts. One of our very own cubs, Pene’lope, read Hop on Pop to the class — and she had them completely captivated from beginning to end. We are SO proud of her!

What a wonderful day in the Cub Club! 📖✨

While we’ve loved every reader who’s stopped by,
Today’s special guest made our hearts fly high!
She didn’t travel from near or from far —
She’s one of our Cubs, our very own star! 🌟
Miss Pene’lope grabbed Hop on Pop and gave it a whirl…
And we think it’s safe to say — she’s our favorite Seussical girl!

📚❤️ Read Across America – Day 2 at the Cub Club ❤️📚

What a FUN-filled day of reading with some very special guests!

This morning, we were visited by JACES SRO Officer Anthony Jenkins, who shared Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. The cubs loved listening to all of the silly tongue twisters and rhymes!

Later, we had a surprise pop-in from Thing 2! The excitement was priceless as our cubs proudly showed off the Cat in the Hat masks they worked so hard to create. 🎩💙

During quiet time this afternoon, we were treated to a special reading of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss, shared by Brett Wes Johnson from Southeast College. It was the perfect way to wind down while still celebrating our love of books.

Our cubs are truly enjoying all of our amazing community visitors and the wonderful stories they’re sharing. We are so grateful for the support that makes this week so special! 🐻📖
