How Music Therapy Began: Healing After War ๐ถ
Did you know that the field of music therapy has its roots in helping veterans after World War II?
When soldiers returned home, many struggled with physical injuries and emotional trauma. Hospitals began noticing something remarkable โ when musicians played for recovering veterans, their mood, pain, and overall well-being improved.
These powerful results led doctors and psychologists to study how music could be used intentionally as a form of therapy. By the late 1940s, universities began offering music therapy programs, and in 1950, the National Association for Music Therapy was founded in the U.S.
From hospital wards filled with wartime memories to modern clinics, healthcare centers, schools, and more โ music therapy continues to help people heal through rhythm, melody, and connection. ๐๐ต
