Chronic exposure to instability and collective distress can keep the nervous system in a persistent state of activation, which may manifest as anxiety, irritability, fatigue, or disengagement. These experiences do not need to be pathologized as dysfunctional.

By normalizing these reactions with our clients, we promote a trauma-informed and compassionate approach that reduces shame and supports clients in the development of regulation skills.
