North East Westchester Special Recreation, Inc.

We provide therapeutic recreation for children and adults with developmental disabilities. North East Westchester Special Recreation is a non-profit agency.

North East Westchester Special Recreation, established in the early 1970's, is a community based therapeutic recreation agency serving children and adults with developmental disabilities in the north east portion of Westchester County. North East is the second largest agency of its kind in the State of New York and has gained local and state-wide attention for the quality and novelty of programs and services. We receive funding from the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, municipal assessments, program fees and donations. Fund raising activities allow us to expand upon our program options and offer programming to more individuals in need of services.

What a great week and weekend across our programs!

On Thursday, we held our annual Volleyball Skills Competition. Athletes from North East and the Sound Shore Stars competed in a number of events. Congratulations to all the athletes on their hard work!

Over at Clubhouse, the kids celebrated the day with an Under the Sea theme. They created their own sea creatures in art, got moving in music with Miss Marlana, and built their very own underwater dioramas.

At Escapades, the group enjoyed the beautiful weather, spent time doing arts and crafts, and even made homemade apple cinnamon bread.

The teens and adults spent the weekend at Blue Mountain—a crowd favorite! They made s’mores by the fire, went on hikes, enjoyed time outdoors, did arts and crafts, karaoke, and so much more.

It was a wonderful week all around. Just a reminder that there are no regular programs this weekend. We’ll see you soon!

Hello all!

It was a wonderful weekend of programs! Over at Escapades, the crew celebrated Día de los Mu***os by creating their own art projects and making delicious deep-dish pizzas. At Clubhouse, the kids enjoyed their Halloween celebration filled with amazing costumes, a festive parade, pumpkin decorating, and of course—candy! Meanwhile, the teens and adults spent the day at the Palisades Mall for everyone’s favorite mall and movie trip. The group had the chance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future and watch it on the big screen. It was a great weekend all around!

Hello everyone!

What an awesome weekend across our programs! Over at Escapades, everyone got into the Halloween spirit with a spooky celebration. The group made homemade “dirt cups,” sang along with Miss Marlana, played Halloween trivia, and enjoyed so much more festive fun. Meanwhile, at Clubhouse, the kids didn’t celebrate Halloween just yet, but they still had an amazing day filled with great activities and smiles all around. The Teens and Adults took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and spent the day at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center, where they learned about different animals, went hiking, and enjoyed a fun-filled day outdoors with friends!
