Happy Thanksgiving! Dr. Jones says a lot of folks ask what he tells his patients about navigating holiday meals—especially for those living with diabetes.

My advice is simple. Enjoy the day, but use wisdom. Start your meal with protein and vegetables so your sugar stays steadier. Take smaller portions of the starches and sweets, eat slowly, and drink plenty of water. If you use insulin or other medications, stay on your normal schedule and keep an eye on your sugar so you know how your body is handling things. And after dinner, take a slow walk or do something active with your family. It helps your sugar, your digestion, and your peace of mind.

Thanksgiving is a gift. It is a time to remember the goodness of God and the blessing of family. Take care of yourself in a way that lets you enjoy those blessings for many years.

Yesterday at Primary Care we celebrated our diabetic patients with a healthy, delicious lunch—even our desserts! Each guest also received a turkey to take home, helping to make their holiday season a little brighter.

We are so thankful for our diabetes team, the Mary E. Martin Diabetes Center of Excellence Care Team, named in memory of Barry Martin’s mom. Her legacy inspires the compassion and dedication we bring to every patient. Diabetes is personal for us, and our mission is to provide exceptional care, advanced research, and comprehensive education to empower individuals with diabetes to live healthier lives.
