I’m participating as a representative of OT practice with the National Academies of Practice, an interprofessional organization on this project with Red Rover a national animal welfare nonprofit.
Join us for a discussion on the connections between domestic violence, pets, and healthcare, with a focus on social work, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and veterinary medicine. Students will leave this training prepared to support people and pets in crisis during their schooling and in their communities.
In this role, OT helps survivors of domestic violence rebuild altered routines, roles, and coping strategies while addressing physical and cognitive impacts of trauma. OT also supports safe, adaptive ways to care for children and pets, fostering empowerment, stability, and renewed independence in daily life.
What we’ll cover:
The link between human and animal violence
The potential barriers that domestic violence survivors and people experiencing homelessness with pets face
The importance of the human-animal bond
The connection between domestic violence, homelessness, healthcare, and pets
Pet housing programs
How students can get involved in their communities
Join us today and spread the word with your local networks, including field instructors and pet charities.
