Social Determinants of Health play a HUGE role in health outcomes.

You can prescribe the medication.
You can schedule the appointment.
You can give the education.

But if someone doesn’t have:
• transportation to get there
• food that supports their condition
• safe housing
• income to afford care
• support they can trust

— their health will still suffer.

Health doesn’t start in the exam room.
It starts where people live, work, learn, and age.

Until we address the barriers outside the clinic walls, we won’t truly improve outcomes inside them.

This is why transportation, Community Health Workers, interpreters, and community partnerships matter.
This is why equity matters.
This is why Social Determinants of Health are not “extra” — they are essential.

Today we are proud to celebrate an extraordinary leader and friend of The Free Clinics.

Fred has served on our Board of Directors for at least eight years, and during that time, his dedication has been nothing short of remarkable. Most notably, he played a major role in guiding The Free Clinics through a significant transition period — offering steady leadership, thoughtful insight, and unwavering support when it mattered most.

Transitions can define an organization’s future, and Fred helped ensure ours remained strong, mission-focused, and grounded in service to our community. His wisdom, integrity, and calm presence have been a true gift to our board, our staff, and the neighbors we serve.

Behind every thriving nonprofit is a group of leaders who believe deeply in the mission. Fred has consistently been one of those leaders — showing up, speaking up, and standing firm for the health and hope of our community.
