Inclusive community of friends of all abilities, working & celebrating together ... Enhancing life for persons with disabilities & loved ones ... making a better world. L'Arche (French for "The Ark" as in Noah's Ark) was founded in France in 1964 in response to sad conditions in institutions. Today, L'Arche has over 150 communities around the globe, 21 in the USA. L'Arche builds communities of celebration, respect, friendship and faith. In L'Arche, persons with disabilities are friends and teachers, not clients, patients, or service recipients. Today, L'Arche Metro Richmond provides a wealth of activities such as luncheons, sports, charity, advocacy, healthy living events, and celebrations of all kinds. L'Arche friends have great fun while forming relationships, support networks, community, and a sense of purpose and self-worth.
2022 holds great promise. We are building an all new "trio of support" to (1) strengthen our current community life; (2) provide loving, family-like homes for adults with disabilities; and (3) build a one-of-a-kind program called "L'Arche Metro Richmond Partnerships" to work with other providers to enhance life for their residents. This year, we are escalating our fundraising to attain sustainable funding to hire an executive director and put our "trio of support" into action. L’Arche Metro Richmond embraces fundamental needs for friendship and community. As our "trio of support" unfolds, your gifts will allow us to promote a good, safe, and rewarding life for many more friends and give hope and peace of mind to families who long to know that their loved ones are safe and happy.
