Mindful AF Sunday

Most of the week, we’re absorbed in the movie.
Thoughts, plans, worries, memories—scene after scene.

Today’s practice is quieter.

Notice the thoughts.
Then notice what’s aware of the thoughts.

Like watching a movie and suddenly realizing there’s a screen,
nothing has to stop for awareness to be present.

The story can keep playing.
You just don’t have to disappear into it.

Rest there.

“The seer is pure awareness, simply observing.” — Yoga Sutras 2.20

This is your reminder that awareness isn’t the drama.
Awareness is what notices the drama.

Your mind can tell a whole cinematic saga in 0.3 seconds.
Cool. Let it.
You don’t have to crown it king.

See the thoughts. Feel the moment. Stay bigger than the story.

“The body is called the field, and one who knows the field is called the knower of the field.” — Bhagavad Gita 13.2

The Gita is basically saying: your body, your emotions, your thoughts, your whole day… that’s the field.
But you are the one who knows the field.

When you forget that, the stories feel like truth.
When you remember it, the stories are just weather moving through a much bigger sky.

“The most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about.”
— David Foster Wallace

Awareness is like that.
It’s always here, quietly holding everything—
yet we miss it because we’re focused on the content instead of the container.

This week’s reminder:
What’s most real isn’t always the loudest thing in the room.

Wellness Wednesday

Most stress isn’t coming from what’s happening.
It’s coming from the story we’re telling about what’s happening.

The body experiences sensation.
The mind adds commentary.

Today’s wellness practice is simple:
When a stressful thought shows up, pause and ask,
“Is this a fact… or a story?”

You don’t need to erase the story.
You don’t need to replace it with a better one.
You just don’t have to believe it automatically.

Sometimes relief comes not from changing the situation—
but from changing how tightly we cling to the narrative.

Yoga Tip Tuesday | Chair Pose

Chair Pose is where the stories show up fast.

“I can’t hold this.”
“I should be lower.”
“I’m not strong today.”
“This means something about me.”

Next time you’re in Chair, try this instead:
Notice the sensations in your legs.
Notice your breath.
Notice the thoughts… without arguing with them.

Let the body do Chair.
Let the mind tell its stories.
See what happens when you don’t believe every one of them.

Effort is real.
Sensation is real.
The story is optional.

Mantra Monday

“I don’t have to believe every story I tell myself.”

Just because a thought is loud doesn’t mean it’s true.
Just because it’s familiar doesn’t mean it’s accurate.

This week, we’re practicing noticing the stories without immediately buying into them.
Thoughts can arise. Opinions can form. Narratives can run wild.

And still… we get to pause.
Still… we get to choose how much weight they carry.

Awareness doesn’t silence the mind.
It just reminds us we’re not required to believe everything it says.

Mindful AF Sunday

Who knows?

Set a timer for five minutes.
Sit comfortably.
Ask the question: Who knows?

Then don’t answer it.

Notice what arises — thoughts, sensations, impatience, curiosity.
Notice what fades.
Notice what remains aware of it all.

No conclusions needed.
Just honest attention.

“At other times, the seer identifies with the fluctuations of the mind.” — Yoga Sutra 1.4

This sutra doesn’t judge the mind — it simply names the habit of mistaking thoughts for identity.

When we believe every story the mind tells, we feel pulled around by it. When we notice the story instead, a little space opens up.

The practice isn’t eliminating thoughts.
It’s recognizing when identification is happening.

“The unreal has no being; the real never ceases to be.
The truth of both has been seen by the seers.” — Bhagavad Gita 2.16

The Gita draws a clear distinction between what changes and what endures. Thoughts, moods, roles, and even years come and go. Awareness does not.

When you notice a thought, you’re already standing in something more stable than the thought itself. This teaching isn’t abstract — it’s immediately observable.

“Let go of certainty. The opposite isn't uncertainty. It's openness, curiosity and a willingness to embrace paradox, rather than choose up sides.”
— Tony Schwartz

Certainty wants clean answers.
Openness allows lived experience.

This week isn’t asking you to decide who you are.
It’s inviting you to stay curious about what’s noticing it all.

Wellness Wednesday

As this year closes, resist the urge to review, resolve, or rewrite yourself.

Wellness doesn’t require a verdict on who you were this year
or a blueprint for who you’ll be next year.

Tonight, try this instead:
Pause.
Notice your breath.
Notice your body.
Notice your thoughts — without needing to edit them.

You don’t have to summarize a year to be well.
You just have to be here for the moment that’s happening.
