Today I facilitated a 3 hour workshop on Emotional Sobriety and Acceptance. This is a new workshop I have been developing and from what I experienced it went very well, and helped a lot of people in recovery understand acceptance better and most important to identify and address their resistance to accepting an issue in their life or something about them. Working with our resistance creates an important pathway to a deep acceptnce. We can think of acceptance as an experince we have when we stand still in the face of reality or a powerful truth. Acceptance is a pre-requisite for change. Dr. Branden describes the first level of self acceptance as an utter refusal to have an adverserial relationship wiht ourselves. So important and so hard to do when we have rejected and disowned so many parts of ourselves.
