Parents, keep fighting the good fight! 💪🏻 there is so much power in knowledge and understanding the laws within our education system

To all those dyslexia warrior parents, carers and teachers, we thank you 🙏
The best support that those of us that struggle to read ever receive, is knowing there is someone ready to stand up and help us fight for our right to learn to read!
The dyslexia warrior parent is so amazing, because not only do they fight to get the identification and intervention for their own child, but they continue to battle so that EVERY child that struggles is taught to read!

It might be one of the most important aspects of a dyslexic persons journey 🏠

Life is about perspective. One person's "prison" is another person's passport.

Recently, I was with a student and my son for a therapy session. The conversation surrounded what "dyslexia therapy" was, and what being "dyslexic" really meant. So, I turned to my son and said, "What does it mean to be dyslexic?". Without hesitation, he said "It means I can go to the moon if I want, because NASA loves to recruit people with my kind of brain, or if I want I can work for the CIA because I'm really good at reading people and knowing how they feel (empathy) and my dad says that the CIA loves to work with people like that, and did you know that Albert Einstein was probably dyslexic, and there is a bunch of famous athletes are too.."

Now, it seems insignificant to some, but for me it was confirmation that he is watching and listening. In that moment, my heart smiled big, because I know he is absorbing what we say, not this idea that "you have a disability," "school just may not be for him" , "school isn't for everyone", or "grades don't matter".

Parents, just know that our babies are absorbing our perspectives, our words, and their confidence starts with our support!

"Its not what you look at that matters, its what you see.." - Henry David Thoreau

❤️ life is about perspective. Being dyslexic doesn’t mean you’re destined to fail. It means you’re destined for things far greater than expected, you just needed to look at it in a different way! 🧭

“Early screening is so important for our students with dyslexia…it begins the process of quickly connecting students with the powerful interventions that can help them overcome dyslexia, or even prevent it from ever being a factor in their lives.”
- Dr Jan Hasbrouck

Early identification and intervention for those of us with dyslexia is essential.
It is a myth that diagnosis of dyslexia needs to wait until 8-years of age.
The earlier dyslexia is identified the better.
Not only can early identification prevent us falling behind academically, it can also help safeguard against low self esteem, negative self worth, school refusal and school dropout.

I had no idea the post for Dyslexia Screenings would be shared over 57 times and reach as many people as it did! What a blessing!!

With all of the feedback, many families were interested in the evaluation! Screenings are NOT evaluations, evaluations are much more in depth and provide a diagnosis.

Summertime is a great time to get it done, as you’ll receive the accommodations/recommendations before the school year begins! It’s such a relief to start the school year positive and informed!

Have you ever seen a kid struggle to shoot a basketball, hit a fastball, or run super fast — even though they have two arms, two legs, good vision, and lots of practice?

We don’t call that child disabled. They don’t have “dys-sports-ia” 🤪 (see what I did there)

We just say, “Hey, maybe sports aren’t their thing. Maybe they shine somewhere else.” 🌟

👉 Dyslexia works the same way. 👈
A child with dyslexia may find reading, writing, and spelling unexpectedly difficult — even though they’re intelligent, creative, and just as capable as their peers. They look like they should be able to read easily, just like any other child — but their brain processes language in a different way. 🗝️

It’s not a lack of effort or intellect. Dyslexic children tend to put forth MORE effort and can hide their weaknesses because they are so intelligent.

It’s a difference in brain wiring — a learning difference. 💡🧠

Some of the brightest, most innovative minds in the world are dyslexic. They just needed the right support and the chance to grow in their way!

📝 With a comprehensive evaluation-diving beyond the screening, we can better understand a child’s unique strengths and challenges. Once we know how they learn, we can support them in ways that unlock their potential and embrace their strengths— and then, believe me, the possibilities are incredible!
