🌿 Join Us at the 2026 NCHWA Community Health Fair! 🌿

The North Carolina Hmong Women Association (NCHWA) is excited to host our upcoming Community Health Fair at the Hickory Metro Convention Center—a day dedicated to health, culture, and community connection.

This event brings together healthcare providers, community organizations, local artists, and families for a vibrant day of health resources, wellness education, cultural celebration, and community support. Attendees will have the opportunity to access health education, learn about important community resources, connect with local organizations, and enjoy cultural performances and activities for all ages.

Last year we welcomed over 200 community members, 25 vendors, and 10 artists, and this year we are excited to grow even more—expecting more attendees, vendors, and artists and creators from across our region!

Our goal is to make health information and services accessible, culturally responsive, and welcoming for immigrant and refugee families, while celebrating the strength and resilience of our community.

Location: Hickory Metro Convention Center
Date: May 30, 2026
Time: 10AM - 3PM

If you are interested in participating as a vendor, artist, sponsor, or volunteer, we would love to connect!

We are honored to have Avonne A. Yang, MSN, RN, as our keynote speaker at the inaugural Hmong Community Health Fair on May 31st at the Hickory Metro Convention Center.

Avonne will be speaking on the importance of the intersection of Hmong cultural arts and how that is an integral part of overall health.

Avonne A. Yang came to the U.S. in 1976 as a refugee due to her father’s role in the CIA’s secret war in Laos. Growing up in a Hmong immigrant family, she witnessed the challenges her community faced in navigating the U.S. healthcare system.

Inspired by a Hmong nurse who helped her mother, Avonne pursued nursing to support others in similar situations. After earning her B.S.N. in 1990, she worked as a hospital nurse until 2004 and later served as Director of the CHNSIP program at Saint Catherine University. She earned her M.S.N. in 2009 and became a nursing faculty member at UNC Charlotte, where she co-led a $3M HRSA grant supporting underserved students.

She is now retired and residing in Kings Mountain, NC with her family.
