We can completely customize the system to match what each child loves, whether it’s animals, cars, or their favorite hobbies. By personalizing their communication experience, we help them engage more deeply and confidently express themselves. Our waiting room is designed to be a calming and engaging space to help children transition smoothly into their therapy sessions. With soft colors, comfortable seating, and interactive elements like sensory toys and books, the waiting room offers a peaceful environment that reduces anxiety. It provides children with a familiar and soothing space where they can relax, explore, and feel more at ease before entering their session. This intentional design helps set the tone for a positive and productive therapy experience.

Consistency is key! 🦕 When a toddler says 'da-la-la-la' for dinosaur every time, it counts as a word because they're using it to communicate!

After they say it, be sure to acknowledge their word and model the right way to say it—'Yes! Dinosaur!' 🦖

And how cute is that 'RAWR'? Animal sounds are awesome for early learners—they’re fun to say and great for practicing communication skills. Keep modeling those sounds! 🐾

As children grow older, AAC becomes an important tool for kids who aren’t able to speak or have difficulty using words. It gives them a way to express their ideas, feelings, and needs just like their peers. Whether they’re using pictures, symbols, or a device that speaks for them, AAC helps them participate in conversations at home, at school, and with friends.

For older kids, AAC can support things like asking questions in class, joining in on group activities, or even telling jokes with friends! It helps them share their thoughts and feelings, build relationships, and be more independent. As they grow, their AAC tools can grow with them—allowing them to communicate about more complex topics and interests, from school subjects to hobbies.

The key is that AAC empowers kids to connect and communicate, giving them a voice that they can use in all parts of their lives, whether at school, at home, or out in the community. 🌳

Last but not least, meet Kylie Udy, our Speech Therapy Aide and The Grove Team Lead at Seed and Soil Collective! Kylie helps coordinate fun and engaging therapeutic activities like storytime yoga in The Grove. She holds an AA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Education and is currently completing her BS in Communication Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University. Specializing in early intervention and AAC, Kylie loves working with families to help children find their unique way of communicating. She appreciates the close-knit, family-like atmosphere at Seed and Soil, where everyone’s strengths are combined to ensure the best support for the children and their families. When she’s not busy with homework, Kylie enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to explore new places. And fun fact—she also has her cosmetology license! ✂️ Her personal motto? “If it’s to be, it is up to me.”
