👃 First Aid Tip: Treating a Nosebleed

Follow these steps to manage a nosebleed safely:

1️⃣ Sit up straight and tilt the head forward, chin down. Leaning back or lying down can cause blood to drain into the throat and trigger vomiting.
2️⃣ Pinch the soft portion of the nose with your thumb and index finger to close the nostrils. Hold for about 10 minutes.
3️⃣ If bleeding doesn’t stop after 20 minutes, call 911 to activate EMS.

-5 minutes: The time it takes to bleed to death.
-4-6 minutes: The time it takes for brain damage to begin when the heart stops beating.
-1 minute: The length of time the brain can survive without oxygen before brain cells begin to die.
