✋ Raise your hand if you know where this is!

The donor hallway on a sunny day might be one of our favorite spots at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Not only are we so incredibly grateful for the many individuals and organizations who help support our patients and their families, but we also love the way the rainbow plaques light up the walls and floor! 🌈

👋 Meet Jessica.

In 2024, Jessica had a TPIAT at Nationwide Children’s after years of battling chronic pancreatitis. TPIAT or Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation is a surgical option for children with debilitating pain and impaired quality of life from acute recurrent or chronic pancreatitis.

See what Jessica has to say about her experience at Nationwide Children’s:

“I battled chronic pancreatitis for years. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, experiencing extreme stomach pain, or in bed with no energy because I was completely exhausted.

In 2020, my mom and I went to the emergency room due to severe stomach pain, but we were told nothing was wrong. I later saw another doctor and was misdiagnosed. After trying multiple medications with no relief, my parents decided it was time to seek new answers.

After undergoing many ERCPs and receiving a new diagnosis, I was referred to Columbus, Ohio, to see the doctors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to be evaluated for TPIAT surgery.

After years of pain, discomfort, and not being able to do anything, I received my TPIAT surgery on August 20, 2024—and my life has changed ever since!”

👋 Meet Ella.

When Ella was born in Tennessee, her parents knew something was wrong but no one had answers. After days in the NICU, they learned she had a rare condition called cloacal malformation, a complex diagnosis affecting the urinary, digestive, and reproductive systems.

Searching for hope, Ella’s family found Nationwide Children’s Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction and Dr. Richard Wood. With a dedicated team of specialists in urology, gynecology, and colorectal surgery, Ella underwent a life-changing reconstructive surgery near her very first birthday.

Today, Ella is thriving. She’s healthy, happy, and full of laughter—and her family credits her care team for giving her the chance to grow and live life to the fullest!
