This week's Rural Health Voices quote is from Dr. Michael Shepherd, assistant professor at the University of Michigan. Rural communities face healthcare disparities at a higher rate than their urban counterparts, but local access to care is essential in order for every community to thrive.

Do you have a quote to share about your rural healthcare experience? Submit it to be featured on our Rural Health Voices series here: https://www.hillsdalehospital.com/rural-health-voices/

Families don’t experience care in pieces - so why do our systems still work that way?

In our upcoming Great Lakes Breastfeeding Webinar, "Removing Barriers Collectively: Working Together to Improve Health Outcomes for Families," an incredible group of trusted community leaders come together for an honest conversation about what it really takes to support families - across clinics, programs, and communities.

This panel moves beyond “collaboration” as a buzzword and digs into what happens when systems don’t talk to each other, how trust is built (or broken), and what it looks like to partner with communities instead of around them. Expect practical strategies you can use right away - and perspectives that may shift how you think about your role in family health.

🎙 Panelists: Angelene Love, BS, Doula, CBS; Tameka White, CLS; Dera Williams, LCE; Natosha Sage-EL Bylsma, IBCLC, CPST; Lindsey McGahey, IBC, IFSD, BE; Steph Thornton, CHW; and Kiara Baskin, CD, CLC, CHW
🎤 Moderated by: Shonte’ Terhune-Smith, BS, IBCLC, BD

Our Aim

The Regional Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (RQPCs) aim to develop data-drive innovative strategies that are tailored to the strengths and challenges of each region to address preterm birth, very low birth weight and low birth weight, as well as maternal and infant mortality.

Furthermore, RPQCs ensure statewide-alignment with the strategies and goals outlined in the Michigan Mother Infant Health and Equity Improvement Plan (MIHEIP), and are tasked with addressing disparities in birth outcomes and health inequities.

Each RPQC engages cross-sector, diverse stakeholders and implement evidence-based interventions utilizing the Population Health Model and quality improvement methodology.

Region 9, our region, includes Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties of Michigan.
