✨ Thank You for an Incredible Night of Caring ✨

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for our Circle of Caring Gala. Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $660,000 to support VIM’s mission of providing compassionate medical care to uninsured neighbors on Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands.

With more than 420 supporters and volunteers in attendance—including members of Dr. Jack McConnell’s family—the evening was a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact of his vision.

We’re working hard to tackle food disparities for the patients we serve and keeping our Wellness Market stocked is one of the most direct ways we can make an impact. Every day, patients leave the clinic with more than information; they leave with real ingredients and practical support to help them turn healthy habits into everyday routines. Our Food is Medicine initiative is built on the idea that nutrition should be accessible, affordable, and doable, and the Wellness Market is where that work comes to life.

🎉 What an incredible day on the course! ⛳💙

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out for Dolphin Head Golf Club’s Fairways of Hope Tournament on November 6th! With 100 amazing players, this event raised an incredible $16,000 to support Volunteers in Medicine’s Breast & Prostate Cancer Detection and Treatment programs.

These programs make a real difference for uninsured and under-insured residents who work or live on Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands—helping more people catch cancer early and ultimately save lives. 💗💙

To everyone who played, cheered, donated, or helped make the day unforgettable: You brought hope to our community, one swing at a time. 🙌💫

National Diabetes Month 2025

November is American Diabetes Month. Here at VIM, we focus on preventing diabetes health problems. Our volunteer medical staff provides tailored care, nutritional counseling, weight management, and lifestyle coaching through our wellness center. We also offer free glucose monitors, testing supplies, and prescription medication, including insulin.

Whether newly diagnosed or long-term patients, we help people live better, longer lives❤️ Forever grateful to those who support our mission to care for our medically-underserved neighbors—one patient at a time!

As we approach the holiday season, reflect on the past and look ahead to the new year, please keep VIM and our patients in your thoughts.

So many of our neighbors are confronting rising health insurance costs, in addition to the potential loss of government subsidies that kept medical insurance premiums affordable.

Currently, VIM serves over 5,000 patients who do not have insurance or the means to pay for care – despite available subsidies, and we provide them with access to expert doctors, nurses, dentists and specialists, along with necessary prescription medications to treat their illnesses – all at no cost to them. Imagine what the number will look like next year when thousands more local working families will no longer be able to afford coverage and access to quality health care.

Just as food banks are ramping up to feed more people in need, VIM is ramping up to serve more patients in need, but we need your help.

Have you ever parked your car and picked a fresh banana 🍌 on the way inside? At VIM, that’s now possible!

We just opened our “edible” parking lot with a festive ribbon-cutting ✂️, joined by over 40 community members. Speakers like Dr. John Newman, Diane Wilson, Mayor Alan Perry, and Ray Deal from the Chamber highlighted VIM’s mission: we treat illness, but also champion prevention and wellness.

Our parking lots and green spaces now feature thriving banana, citrus, and nut trees, fragrant herbs for meals, and a hydroponic “Farm-acy” producing 30,000 leafy greens each year—fresh and local. Through Food as Medicine, personalized nutrition, activity programs, and healthy habit counseling, we’re building a healthier community.

Huge thanks to the Town of Hilton Head Island 👏 for the land lease, plus our supporters; together we added 58 new parking spaces and more ways to nourish neighbors.

THANK YOU, COLLETON RIVER! 💙🙌 Your generous support through the Colleton River Charitable Fund empowers lasting change for our community. Because of you, Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island (VIM HHI) has expanded the use of FreeStyle Libre CGM patches to insulin-dependent Bluffton patients—those who previously had no access to this life-changing technology. 🌟

With these patches, patients painlessly monitor their blood sugar in real-time using a small arm sensor and their smartphone or Libre Reader 📱, gaining better control and peace of mind. This initiative isn’t just about numbers—it’s about helping people live healthier lives. By offering low-income, uninsured individuals vital insight into their glucose trends, CGM patches empower informed decisions, supporting fewer complications and better quality of life. 💪
