It’s snowing…. again….

And we are all just trying to survive the rest of winter. Seasonal Affective Disorder is very real, especially in the Northeast where winter light drops dramatically. You’re getting shorter days, gray skies, and cold — all of which affect circadian rhythm, serotonin, and melatonin.

If I had to narrow it down to the highest-impact combo for SAD I’d recommend:
1. 10,000 lux light box every morning
2. 20 min outdoor walk in the AM
3. Fixed wake time everyday
4. 3x/week exercise
5. At least one scheduled social plan per week

Hang in there, brighter days are coming ☀️

Mondays don’t have to feel heavy, they can be a fresh start, a chance to set the tone for the week with calm and connection. Even small moments — making your kid laugh, a warm cup of tea, or sharing what you’re looking forward to this week — can turn the morning into a softer beginning for both you and your kids.

Kindness doesn’t need to be grand to matter, every small act counts. By sharing compassion with others and modeling it for our children, we create a world that feels warmer, more connected, and full of hope. Start today, and watch how one small gesture can spark joy for both you and those around you. 💛

Let’s be the generation of parents who not only celebrate our children’s achievements but also acknowledge and validate their sadness, frustration, and fears. By doing so, we show them that all emotions are normal and worthy of attention. This kind of parenting nurtures emotional intelligence and builds resilient, empathetic children.

Balancing work, life, and parenting is not about doing everything perfectly, it’s about showing up with intention. Each time you connect with your child, pause for self-care, and make an effort to set boundaries you create a calmer, more connected family life.

How we raise boys shapes the men they become. When we give them space to feel and share their emotions, we’re teaching them that vulnerability is strength not weakness.

Your reactions become your child’s lessons. In moments of stress, how you pause, breathe, and respond teaches them far more than words ever could. Emotional regulation is learned through connection and presence.

I get it! It’s been a long day and the kids just won’t listen. But, modeling emotional regulation is more powerful than any lecture or punishment. When you stay regulated, you give your children the tools to handle their own emotions—one of the most important things a parent can teach their child.

Learning happens inside and outside the classroom. Creative play, hobbies, and extracurricular activities are vital tools for mental health, resilience, and lifelong skills. By supporting children in exploring interests beyond academics, caregivers help them thrive cognitively, emotionally, and socially.
