PROM, premature or prelabor rupture of membranes, or waters releasing before labor occurs for about 10% of pregnancies. Sometimes it takes minutes, hours or even days for labor contractions to come.
Sometimes we wait 72 hours+, expecting labor will begin. We offer informed choice discussing active vs expectant management, hospital vs home.

Ultimately for baby #1 this week, We discuss ways to decrease risks, consult a doctor, run labs, scheduled an ultrasound and wait. We discussed when we would need to transfer. The midwives came and went, and came and went. Things began to sputter. Things picked up without the watchful eyes as the midwives tucked themselves away upstairs. And then, something shifted. And suddenly this little 6lb 3oz girl joined the world, wrapped in a cord and waving before her body was out!

Baby #2 had a different plan. When waters released, mom found herself strapped to the labor rocket! She managed her household and planned to stream her birth live. Before we knew it, this sweet 6lb 4oz peanut joined us in water just 2 hours and 48 min after waters released, watched by the world on TikTok.

Every birth is different. Some slow, some speedy. Tailored care is so important!
