We come in contact with plastic all day long with water bottles, food containers, receipts, packaging, and personal care products.
What some people don’t realize is that tiny pieces of plastic, called microplastics, are being found inside the human body.
Yes inside us!
They’ve been found in the blood, lungs, liver, and even reproductive organs.
Along with them come chemicals like phthalates, which you can see hidden in things like fragrance on labels.
These chemicals are hormone disruptors which means they interfere with things like Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone.
Basically they confuse the body’s messaging system.
This can show up as hormone imbalance, fertility struggles, low energy, weight retention, mood swings, cycle irregularities, and so much more.
They can also increase inflammation and put extra stress on the liver, which is your main detox organ.
So what can we do about it?
Your body can move these out it just needs support. Think drainage first, detox second.
Hydration with minerals
Your body needs minerals to help pull toxins out. Add a pinch of good salt or use electrolytes.
Daily bowel movement
If you’re not going daily, things are sitting too long. Fiber, magnesium, hydration, and healthy fats help.
Liver support
This is your filter system. Think bitter greens, lemon water, herbs like milk thistle and dandelion.
Sweat
Sauna, hot baths, or a good workout.
Sweating is one way your body releases toxins.
Epsom salt baths
Simple and effective (one of my favorites). Helps relax the body while supporting detox pathways.
Ion foot detox
Supports the body’s natural detox pathways. Helps the body move out what it’s been holding onto.
Support detox at the cellular level
Your body has to convert toxins so it can remove them. It needs nutrients to do that . Protein, B vitamins, Sulfur rich foods like broccoli, garlic, onions, eggs are all excellent sources.
Reduce what’s coming in!
Swap plastic for glass or stainless when you can.
Don’t heat food in plastic.
Watch fragrances in products.
Choose whole foods over packaged when possible.
Detoxing is about supporting what your body is already trying to do every single day. When you open up those pathways and give your body what it needs it does a really good job on its own.
If you’ve been dealing with hormone issues, fatigue, or just feeling off this is one of those pieces that often gets overlooked. It matters more than people think.
Let’s have a strong week this week! Make one swap or do one of the tips to support your detox pathways.
