There is a standard in business and an expectation for greatness that we all are after. Chief Meteorologist Jarod Floyd is the standard in the field of weather. He is second to none and we are glad he is here in NELA! Thank you Jarod for all you do. TLDR: Jarod is the best.
MEET YOUR METEOROLOGIST
A lot of new folks have found The Digital Weather Desk in the last two weeks, so I take an opportunity every so often to introduce myself.
My name is Jarod Floyd, and I'm the owner/founder of The Digital Weather Desk... a digital weather platform that serves northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and western Mississippi.
This platform provides daily weather forecasts, extensive breaking weather coverage, and other weather-related content. This content is provided 100% free to you, made possible through partnerships with local businesses. We have an app that is free to download, and also partner with WeatherCall NexGen to provide additional alert options during severe weather events. Links to download the app and more information on WeatherCall can be found at digitalweatherdesk.com.
I've lived in Ouachita Parish since 2004, and I'm a graduate of the University of Louisiana-Monroe (B.S. Atmospheric Science, 2006). Prior to launching The Digital Weather Desk, I spent two decades in local broadcast television.
Not all weather sources are created equal, and they often have very different end goals in mind.
This platform is operated as a community service. It's designed to deliver timely, clear-headed, responsible weather information.
This platform issues actual forecasts. It does NOT regurgitate raw model data to solicit clicks and shares.
On a personal note, I'm part of this community. Weather impacts our day to day. It impacts our economy... especially our local, small businesses. Exaggerated, overdramatized forecasts can do legitimate harm. They also create distrust in the weather community.
I also know how many pages are out there with BIG BOLD HEADLINES, showing you brightly colored maps, and warning you of THE NEXT BIG STORM. I'm also aware of how much those pages love to beat their chest when they're the "first ones" to tell you about a system. A broken clock is right twice a day. And, when a lot of those sites are reminded of their blown forecasts, they hide behind the fact that "it was never an official forecast". Convenient, right?
If you're expecting me to be the "first" to always tell you about a significant weather event, you're going to be disappointed here. However, if you're expecting me to walk you through every detail of an event before, during, and after in a responsible manner... you're in the right spot.
If you're just finding this page for the first time, my family and I are glad you're here. If you've followed me or watched my forecasts since you were a little kid, please stop phrasing it that way because it makes my joints ache... but, it means a lot.
If you appreciate what goes on here, please let our local business partners know and consider using their services when needed. They make all of this possible.
