Important AHA announcement for October 2025!

The American Heart Association updated their science and course curricula on 10/22/25 for all course disciplines (Heartsaver, BLS, ACLS, PALS, PEARS) as part of a regularly scheduled review.

What providers need to do:
Check in with your organization educators and managers regarding how their organization specific protocols may be changing.

What instructors need to do:
Check in with your training center or training site coordinators for specific requirements.

Coming to our training center in November 2025!

Baystate Health Systems is now offering a Chokesaver course, designed for restaurant staff looking to meet MA regulations 105 CMR 590.011 and 105 CMR 605.00- regarding the requirement of staff being trained in anti-choking procedures in establishments containing 25 seats or more.

This is a 2 hour course which covers first aid topics such as choking emergencies, allergic reactions and opioid associated emergencies. This course includes adult, child and infant guidelines.

This course does not include CPR/AED training. The cost of this course is $30.

Students that successfully complete this course will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver course completion card, valid for 2 years.

Recently, the Baystate Health AHA team collaborated with several local organizations for a fun, yet educational day seminar regarding marine based emergencies. Lessons included handling local wildlife, boat disasters, how/when to use local resources and hands-on practice of water based rescue - including managing cardiac arrests, severe bleeding and spinal injuries on the water.
Thank you to Hampden County Sheriff's Dept., Dept. of Conservation and Recreation, MERT, Westfield FD, Chicopee FD, South Hadley District 1 FD, Baystate Medical Center Dr. McFall and Dr. Kelly for an informative and enlightening day of marine emergency education.

Happy summer all! Recently, we traveled to the Chicopee Boys & Girls Club for an AHA Heartsaver Course for their staff. As luck would have it, it was also dress-up day at the Boys and Girls Club - so staff came to class wearing either 'BBQ Dad' or 'Soccer Mom' attire. Unfortunately, our instructors weren't told this previously or we would've happily taken part! I'm told Instructor Eric Stratton makes a mean cheeseburger!

Breaking News!!!
You asked, we provided! Your friends at the Baystate Health AHA Training Center are now proudly offering AHA courses at Franklin Medical Center to help cater to our providers up north!
Currently, we are happy to offer the following in Greenfield, MA:
ACLS Renewals: 4/7 at 9am and 4/21 at 9am
PALS Renewals: 4/7 at 2pm and 4/21 at 2pm
BLS Heartcodes (can be used as initials or renewals) 4/7 at 1pm and 4/21 at 1pm

A reminder that all of our courses are open to non-Baystate providers as well. The more the merrier!

Recently, the Baystate AHA Training Center travelled to two local high schools in Western MA to teach groups of their educators CPR/AED use and first aid. We were happy to support our local educators while also making our public schools a bit safer for our kids.
Please contact the Baystate AHA Training Center for your training needs. We are more than happy to come to your location for classes, and can also accommodate small and large groups at our training center in Holyoke, MA. We offer several classes geared towards bystanders such as office personnel, teachers, coaches, etc.
