If freediving (or another practice) hasnât felt like a solution, youâre not alone. Healing is about
finding what works for you.
Sometimes when I post the research I'm doing and the trauma-informed freediving program that I'm creating (getting closer to finishing the comprehensive manual) people reach out and tell me their traumatic experiences from diving and how they don't want treat it with more of the same. Of course we don't go back to the trauma or the cause of it.
Unless you want to talk about it, work through it, process it, learn how to overcome, untangle it... Find resolution... And get back to the sport you love, then I'm here for it.
I'm helped so many freedivers get back to their passion by helping them process key events with this unique method that I've created.
I'm not trying to sell you on anything right now. Somebody reached out to me on Instagram after I posted about an experience that happened during a dive. And he was very angry that I was selling something that was not healthy. He said he was triggered from watching my videos and going to my web page... And from viewing the free resources on my linktree.
I didn't meet him with resistance or anger but compassion and empathy. He must really miss being able to feel safe in the ocean or on the free diving line. So I sent him what I'm sharing below.
Before you leave comments or criticisms. This sport is not for everyone. But that's up to you to decide not someone like me or a freedive instructor. We can only encourage and support you, And importantly, let you know if you're in danger.
Believe me, I have been around enough folks in the freediving community who thought I never belonged and they made sure I knew it time and time again. But, yet. Here I am. A safe, sound instructor.
Freediving, Trauma, and the Path to Healing
Not every tool for healing works the same for everyone. Freediving, while transformative for
many, can sometimes resurface challenges instead of resolving them. This doesnât mean
healing isnât possibleâit means the right approach matters.
The Realities of Trauma and Healing
If a sport or practice has been a source of pain, the question of whether to return to it is deeplypersonal and worth exploring. Healing isnât about forcing a solution; itâs about finding safety, connection, and tools that work for you.
Why Finding the Right Fit Matters
Therapy, coaching, and self-exploration require trust, the right support, and approaches tailored
to your experience.
What helps one person heal might feel overwhelming for someone else.
Thatâs okay.
You deserve to work with someone who understands your unique story and helps
you navigate it with compassion.
A Trauma-Informed Perspective
As a freediving instructor and therapist, Iâve guided many individuals whoâve struggled with theSame questions.
Together, weâve reframed relationships with freediving, creating safety and
self-trust in and out of the water. Whether freediving remains part of your path or not, yourhealing journey is valid.
If Youâre Exploring Healing:
Trust your instincts about what feels safe and supportive.
Seek out professionals who prioritize your unique needs and experiences.
Remember: You donât have to return to what hurt you to find peaceâyou can choose new tools, new paths, and new opportunities for healing.
Youâre Not Alone.
Healing is a journey, and itâs okay to take your time finding what works for you.
Whether itâsfreediving, therapy, or another path entirely, what matters is that youâre supported, seen, and
empowered every step of the way.
