Sergio Andrade LMT Massage & Energetic Therapy Practitioner Additionally, my military career has added its own set of challenges to my physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Massage has been a significant component of my overall well-being, contributing to both my physical, mental and emotional health. Over the years, my body has endured its fair share of aches and pains, stemming from a diverse range of physical activities such as soccer, trail running, weight lifting/bodybuilding, CrossFit, Spartan races, distance running, cycling and swimming. Compounded with these pursuits, my role as a cybersecurity analyst has often confined me to prolonged periods of computer work, exacerbating the strain on my body. Despite these challenges, these experiences have fueled my commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of individuals who, like myself, navigate demanding and varied lifestyles. At Quantum, I am actively expanding my expertise by incorporating a holistic approach to bodywork and massage, integrating elements of physical, energetic, emotional, and spiritual healing. I invite you to book an appointment with me, where I can apply this comprehensive knowledge to provide you with a tailored and rejuvenating experience.

I’m excited to tell you about a new modality that I’ve learned called Active Isolated Stretching.

==>> Results: I’ve been using AIS with clients who are recovering from plantar fasciitis, sciatica, and ankle injuries and it has been awesome to see how they have been able to regain mobility, experience reduction in pain, and get back to their favorite activities.

=> What is Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)?
AIS was developed by Aaron Mattes and is a technique that uses gentle, repeated stretches held for just a few seconds. As an example, by focusing on the small, supportive muscles of the foot and lower leg, AIS helps retrain movement patterns and ease chronic tightness.

==> AIS isn’t just for injuries. It’s also valuable for athletes, people with desk-related stiffness, and anyone wanting to move with greater freedom.

If you’re curious about how Active Isolated Stretching can benefit your body, ask me about adding it to your next session!

I had the opportunity to support athletes and coaches at the Special Olympics Hawaii Summer Games 2025 swim event, which was held at the University of Hawaii Manoa.

Along with a team of volunteer massage therapists, we provided Sports Massage for swimmers and coaches.

Most of these athletes competed in multiple sports over the weekend and so we focused on helping them stay loose and recover between events.

As someone who loves distance swimming, I know firsthand that even though it’s low-impact, swimming can be seriously tough on the body.

Some of the most common areas that need support at a swim event include:

- Tight forearms, shoulders and lats from repetitive strokes
- Sore hips and legs from explosive kicking
- Neck stiffness from rotational breathing patterns
- General fatigue from multi-day meets

Grateful to be part of the volunteer team supporting these athletes and I’m looking forward to the next event!

Memorial Day Murph:

Every Memorial Day, thousands of people take on “Murph” which is a CrossFit workout that was created to honor the memory of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who gave his life in service. It's become a powerful tradition on Memorial Day to honor fallen heroes.

Here’s the workout
One mile run,
100 pull-ups,
200 push-ups,
300 squats,
Finish with another one mile run.
Option to do it RX with a 14 or 20 lb weight vest

https://www.crossfit.com/heroes/murph-workout

At my fittest, I could barely finish this in an hour. This workout taught me so much about how to find my pace, don’t try to blast through it and end up fizzling out and then hating life as you battle the remainder of the work. It also taught me that I am more resilient than I often give myself credit for. After this workout, the other challenges in life seem small in comparison.

Now...What's Your Recovery Strategy?
Here are some tips:

1. Hydrate!!
Include electrolytes because you're probably all out.

2. Eat
Include clean macros (protein, carbs, fat) so that you repair your body with the best.

3. Keep moving - Easy
You might want to collapse, but your body will thank you for some light movement afterwards like walking, easy bike riding or getting in the Ocean.

4. Book a massage.
A post-Murph massage can do wonders for sore muscles, reduce inflammation, and help your nervous system chill out. I have a great stretching routine!

5. Soak it out.
An Epsom salt bath or time in the Ocean can work wonders.

6. Rest and reflect.
Murph isn’t just about how fast you finish. Take a moment to reflect on why you showed up, who you did it for (could be you), and what you learned about yourself.

At the end of the day you showed up and that is what counts.

Do yourself a favor and don’t skip the recovery.

Massage Moments on Secret Island

Not bragging, but sometimes, my ride to work is pretty magical.

I recently had the opportunity to support a corporate wellness event at one of the most beautiful spots on Oahu; Secret Island which is on the North Shore.

The event brought together an amazing group of professionals for a day of celebration, fun, and relaxation.

Picture this: ocean breezes, swaying palms, the sound of gentle waves and Hawaiian Reggae music.

There’s something special about offering massage in a natural, open-air environment; it helps people drop into their bodies and be more in the moment. Seeing everyone unwind and recharge, reminded me how powerful moments of rest really are.

I love supporting events where well-being is part of the experience.

Here is a link to Secret Island if you want to check it out for yourself.

A Healthy Psoas: Athletes and Expecting Moms

I read a really interesting book recently called “The Psoas Book” by Liz Koch () and I would like to share what I learned with you.

We all spend too much time sitting.

Your psoas connects your spine to your legs, and it acts as a powerful hip flexor and spinal stabilizer which influences posture, movement efficiency, breathing, and nervous system regulation.

One common symptom that I’ve seen in my practice is clients reporting lower back pain and sciatic pain. Oftentimes this is a result of their psoas being too tight which pulls on the lower back causing pain.

According to Koch, the psoas is often tight or imbalanced in active people due to repetitive movements like running and cycling.

The Fear Reflex - since the psoas is a powerful flexor it is called into action as part of our fear reflex. When we spend too much time in a fear state (physically, mentally and/or emotionally) real or imagined, it can and will show up in our physical bodies.

Athletes
A chronically tight psoas can:
-- Impair performance & core stability
-- Limiting range of motion & hip extension
-- Cause lower back pain, hip strain, or knee issues
-- Compromise breathing efficiency

Expecting Moms
Healthy Psoas can benefit by:
-- Enhance pelvic alignment and stability
-- Alleviate lower back & hip discomfort
-- Promote optimal fetal positioning
-- Support efficient and less painful labor

Supporting Community Wellness:
27th Annual Massage Awareness Day at the Hawaii State Capitol

I really enjoy supporting community events and had such a good experience recently at the Hawaii State Capitol, where I got to be part of their 27th Annual Massage Awareness Day, hosted by the AMTA-Hawaii Chapter.

This annual event brings together licensed massage therapists from across the islands to raise public awareness about the many benefits of massage therapy—and to give back to our community in a meaningful way.

I was there representing my alma mater, Quantum School of Massage & Holistic Health, which was officially recognized by the Hawaii State Legislature for its ongoing support of this event. It was such a proud moment to stand with fellow therapists and grads, knowing we were continuing a legacy of service and healing.

Throughout the day, we offered free massages to state workers, legislators, and visitors. It was amazing to see how even just a few minutes of touch could help people feel more relaxed, grounded, and open to learning more about how massage supports overall health and well-being.

What made the day even more special?

All proceeds collected were donated to the Hawaii Food Bank. So every massage given also helped provide meals for local families.

I'm so grateful to the AMTA-HI Chapter for continuing to organize such a powerful event, and to everyone who came by for a massage, made a donation, or simply stopped by to learn more.

It felt good to give back and be part of something bigger; especially alongside my Quantum ‘ohana.

Sports Massage at F45 Playoffs

Pre & Post-event Massage at F45 Ala Moana Playoffs

If you’ve ever seen an F45 Playoff, you know it’s no joke. It’s a timed fitness challenge with ten stations that test strength, cardio, agility, and endurance; all in just 10 minutes!

Athletes of all fitness levels were giving it their all, and I was there helping them either prepare for their heat and/or recover; after they figured out how to get up off the floor which is the universal recovery position. ⊙﹏⊙∥

You would be surprised to see how a quick 10-minute session focusing on shoulders, low backs, and quads can make a big impact on their performance and recovery.

A few people told me they felt ready to go again! Just kidding (◔◡◔)

The F45 Ala Moana team created such an uplifting, supportive atmosphere, and it was awesome to be part of the community in action, cheering each other on and pushing past limits.

Why On-Site Massage Matters

Events like these remind me how powerful even a short massage can be. Massage isn’t always about relaxation, it can support preparation, performance & recovery.

Showing your body some love so it can keep doing what you love.

Exciting News – Now Supporting Our Veterans Through the VA

I’m excited to share that I’m now an approved provider in the VA’s Community Care Network via TriWest!

That means I can now offer massage therapy to veterans through the VA referral system.

As a veteran myself, I understand the challenges that come with military service, and it means a lot to be able to support fellow veterans through pain relief and stress reduction.

If you’re a veteran, or know someone who is, massage therapy may be covered by the VA with a referral from your/their primary care manager.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions or want help getting started.

What an amazing experience!

I supported another great event this week. The Hawaii Pacific Health's Annual Nurses Conference was a two day event were we provided Healing Touch to the 300+ conference attendees.

It was an amazing experience for a couple of reasons:

1. It is always feels good to give back especially to those who are taking care of others.

2. It was great to be in community providing Healing Touch. I was fortunate to work along side some gifted healers over the course of the 2 days.

3. It is really awesome to see western medicine not only accept energy therapy as a viable complementary care modality, but many of these health care workers get treatments to support their own self-care practice.

Also wanted to give at shout out to Karen Rivera Mann (Integrated Services Coordinator at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children) for her support getting us setup and organizing client appointments, and the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort for providing excellent accommodations and a great lunch too!
