You eat healthy and clean all week… then cheat on the weekend—and restart every Monday.

Sounds familiar?

Here’s the thing most people don’t realize: those weekend cheat meals don’t actually add up the way you think they do.

A lot of people believe,
“If I eat only 1200 calories Monday through Friday, I’ve earned the right to go wild on the weekend.”

So the math goes like this:
1200 calories a day for five days equals 6,000 calories.
Then Saturday and Sunday turn into full-on cheat mode—maybe 4,000 calories each day.
That’s another 8,000 calories.

Add it all together and you get 14,000 calories for the week.
Divide by seven days and—voilà—2,000 calories a day.
On paper, that sounds reasonable.

But here’s the problem: this isn’t a math issue. It’s a biochemical one.

Eating 1200 calories a day isn’t “being disciplined.”
That’s starvation.

Eating 4000 calories in a day isn’t “balance.”
That’s binge eating.

And your body hates both.

Every week, your metabolism is yanked from one extreme to the other—restriction during the week, chaos on the weekend. That metabolic whiplash is why you feel tired, irritable, obsessed with food, and stuck at the same weight no matter how hard you try.

So here’s the real question:
If your weekly average ends up being about 2,000 calories a day anyway…
why not just allow yourself to eat 2,000 calories every single day?
No deprivation.
No weekend rebound.
No constant food obsession.
Your body will thank you for that.

The math might be technically correct.
But the logic—and the biology—make no sense.
And your body has been trying to tell you that all along.

You’re not addicted to junk food. You’re addicted to the chemicals in the junk food. And when you overeat or binge eat junk food like there’s no tomorrow, you blame yourself for having no willpower to stop. That does not sound very fair to you.

That’s me. I’m a long-time resident of Honolulu for over 20 years, that’s more than half of my life. I was born in Hong Kong and raised in Macau, China.

I’m a board-certified specialist in pediatric nutrition with over 10 years of experience taking care of medically-fragile children in the Department of Defense system.
