Guys!!!

If you haven’t stopped by River Rats Jam hut yet - you need to.

We have been fans since we first met Angie and this weekend I got to try one of her Cheddar Jalapeño bagels and it’s was literally heaven! The jalapeño was balanced incredibly well and it was literally incredible toasted with cream cheese!

We have never had anything less than amazing from her jams to her breads to all the tasty goodness that she delivers!

Stop by her adorable little hut or place and order and you won’t be disappointed!!!!

(And it’s the only other place other than us that you can get our honey - when in stock *sold out for now*)

🍯 Connell’s Freedom Farms Honey Reserve
— Now Open 🐝

Limited number of reserves available.

After many requests over the years, we’re officially opening our 2026 Honey Reserve.

Our apiary is small, and everything we do with the bees is still done by hand — caring for the colonies, checking frames, harvesting, and bottling the honey right here on the farm. Because of that, the amount of honey we produce each season is naturally limited.

In most seasons our honey sells out once bottling begins, which is what led us to create the Honey Reserve.

Opening a Honey Reserve allows families to secure their honey ahead of harvest so reserve members are filled first when bottling begins later this season.

Families who join the Honey Reserve become part of our First Harvest Circle — the group who receives the first jars filled each season before any public sales begin.

Our honey is packaged the way many of you have come to know and appreciate — in traditional glass mason jars with a wooden honey dipper, filled with the small-batch honey our bees produce right here on the farm.

Hive Sponsors will receive the first reserve numbers before the public list opens.

🌼 Honey Reserve Pricing

$15 per pound
Packaged in our traditional 3-lb jars ($45 each)

🍯 Reserve Options

Small Reserve
• 1 × 3-lb jar — $45

Medium Reserve
• 3 × 3-lb jars — $135

Large Reserve
• 6 × 3-lb jars — $270
• Includes a Freedom Farms bee logo canvas tote for easy transport

🐝 What Honey Reserve Means

Reserve members receive:

• Honey filled before waitlist and public sales
• Priority access to the first bottling batches
• Early pickup notification
• First right of refusal if a spring harvest occurs

If a spring harvest happens, you may choose to receive spring honey or keep your reserve for the traditional late-season harvest.

📋 How to Reserve

Send us a message with:

1️⃣ Your name
2️⃣ Reserve size (Small, Medium, or Large)
3️⃣ Preferred contact method

We’ll confirm availability and provide deposit details.

💛 Payment

A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your Honey Reserve.

The remaining balance will be due at pickup.

Deposits are refundable only if seasonal production prevents us from fulfilling your reserve.

📦 Pickup & Shipping

Farm pickup is preferred.

If shipping is requested, shipping and handling will be invoiced separately so your honey arrives safely.

🌾 Limited Availability

Honey Reserves are intentionally capped below expected production to ensure we never overpromise based on seasonal conditions.

Once reserves are filled, a waitlist will remain open for any remaining harvest availability.

Thank you for continuing to support local agriculture, pollinator stewardship, and the quiet work that happens behind the scenes long before honey ever reaches a jar.

🐝 Connell’s Freedom Farms Hive Sponsorship

Over the last few years, the bees have quietly become one of the most meaningful parts of our farm.

What started as a handful of hives has grown into a small but thriving apiary. This season we are expanding again, adding new colonies while continuing the work of caring for the bees that help pollinate our land and support the surrounding ecosystem.

This year we are opening a small number of Hive Sponsorships for those who would like to help support the apiary.

Hive sponsorship helps offset the real costs of keeping healthy colonies, including equipment, hive maintenance, winter preparation, and the ongoing care the bees require throughout the season.

As a thank you, sponsors receive a small share of the harvest along with occasional updates from the apiary during the year.

Because honey production can vary season to season, we always estimate our harvest conservatively to ensure we never promise more than the bees can provide.

We will be opening 25 sponsorship spots for the 2026 season.

Thank you for supporting the bees and the small farm work that makes this possible. 🍯

Public Service Announcement from the Coop 🐓🥚

We are officially in the muddy, slushy time of year.

While we do our best to control the muck being tracked into the coop and nesting boxes with extra shavings and pellets, sometimes dirty eggs are simply unavoidable this time of year. The freeze thaw cycle creates a whole lot of mud, even for our ladies.

Though I usually save the most questionable looking eggs for the family… much to their dismay. 😉

So apologies for this stretch of time when our flock is also navigating the mud season that tends to hang around for the next several weeks.

Just a reminder that our eggs are unwashed and collected twice per day to maintain their natural protective coating called the bloom.

The bloom is a thin, invisible layer that seals the shell’s pores and helps protect the egg from bacteria while keeping moisture inside. Because the bloom is intact, farm fresh eggs can safely sit on the counter and typically last even longer when refrigerated.

Sometimes they may not look quite as pretty this time of year, but we will take a slightly muddy farm egg over a perfectly polished grocery store egg any day.

Because real food does not always come perfectly packaged.

Anyone who has gathered eggs during mud season knows exactly what we mean. 🐓🥚

(Eggs shown will be for the family) ❤️

What happens when you do an “estimated headcount “ vs the normal actual headcount?

You have a hen who decides the dog bed is the perfect place to roost and ends up getting kisses from our German Shepard….. we are lucky he is such a love bug to other animals 😂 (She was not amused) 😂

Ever seen a chicken in a kimono?
(Patent pending… lol just kidding. Maybe. 😄)

One of our girls has been battling chronic crop issues almost since she was hatched. We’ve treated, fasted, adjusted feed… all the things. Unfortunately, she ended up with an impacted crop that eventually ruptured — and in true chicken fashion, she did not help her own recovery efforts.

So after a warm bath, carefully clearing the crop, and a lot of teamwork and problem-solving with a friend of mine (fellow homesteader and vet school student), we began the challenge of protecting the wound while it heals.

Cue several failed attempts.

Ace bandage? Rejected.
Standard wrap? Immediately defeated.
Little miss figured out very quickly how to peck at her own healing site.

So… I improvised.

Introducing: the chicken kimono.

She’s wrapped underneath to provide gentle pressure over the super-glue sutures supporting her crop while it heals and allows nutrients to actually be absorbed again. The kimono layer protects the area from pecking while still letting her wings move freely so she can stay comfortable and relatively stress-free.

Function meets farm fashion.

Right now she’s dining like royalty — egg yolk mixed with herbs, oregano oil, and water. Honestly, she’s probably getting better nutrition than ever before. She prefers her meals spoon-fed or with the bowl held for her (clearly leaning into the VIP recovery experience), and hydration is the same way for now.

Healing animals is equal parts knowledge, creativity, patience, and a willingness to adapt when the textbook solutions don’t work.

Homesteading lesson of the day: sometimes recovery looks a little unconventional… and sometimes it wears a kimono. 😂

There’s something special about beekeeper energy.

Almost 50 degrees today after a month of freezing temps and a week that dipped to -25 with windchill.

Snow still on the ground.
Sun finally cutting through the trees.
Hives lined up and steady, holding their own.

And him…
walking in like it’s just another day at the office. ❤️

Just a quick peek.

Most of the girls?
Flying strong.

After that kind of cold?
Totally made his day.
