Why do the people we love trigger us the most?

In this powerful clip from Gabor Maté, he explains something many of us experience but rarely understand…

When we feel deeply triggered in our intimate relationships, it’s often not about what’s happening in the present moment. It’s our unresolved childhood pain being activated.

Those moments when you feel suddenly overwhelmed, overreactive, hurt, defensive…Often come from old emotional wounds that never had the space to be felt or healed.

Our partners, families and closest relationships tend to touch those places the most because they activate the same attachment patterns we formed as children.

But here’s the opportunity inside the trigger:

✨ Triggers reveal where healing is needed.
✨ They show us what still lives in the nervous system.
✨ They invite us into deeper awareness and compassion.

Instead of asking:
“Why are they doing this to me?”
We can begin asking:
“What part of me is being activated right now?”

Healing begins when we become curious about our reactions rather than judging them. Our triggers are not signs that we are broken.

They are doorways back to the parts of ourselves that still need love, presence and integration.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

After two and a half beautiful years of working with so many wonderful people here in Houma, I want to share that I’ll be beginning a new chapter and relocating my practice to the Covington / Mandeville area.

Serving this community through stretch therapy, massage, somatic work and energetic bodywork has been such a meaningful part of my journey.

I am deeply grateful for the trust, connection and healing experiences we’ve shared together. Each of you has been part of something truly special.

I will be taking my final regular appointments in Houma during the month of April. If you’ve been wanting to come in for a session before the move, I would love to see you.

Although I will be relocating, I do plan to return periodically to Houma to offer sessions, so this isn’t goodbye …. just a shift in where I’ll be based. And the Northshore is such a beautiful area so please come out and visit me!

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your healing journey and for being part of mine. This community will always hold a special place in my heart and I look forward to continuing to stay connected.

Had such an amazing time in Sedona. It was the perfect blend of nature, movement, connection and growth.

There’s something so powerful about spending time with like minded people who inspire you to show up as your best self. People who listen without judgment, who see you for who you are today and also for who you’re becoming.

Holding space together for what’s possible in each other’s lives is a beautiful thing. Grateful for the experience at Soul Liberation and the people who shared it. ✨

There are moments in the healing journey when something softens… and the heart remembers how to open again. For me, It’s Important to do my own work so that I can fully be present for my clients and the people in my life.

This photo was taken right after an energetic session during a weekend that moved through layers of my life…childhood memories, old emotions and present day patterns that had quietly been closing my heart to receiving.

For so long, I didn’t realize how much of my energy had been protecting rather than allowing. But healing has a way of gently unwinding the armor.

Lying here, I could feel my heart open in a way that was both tender and powerful, like a doorway inside me had been unlocked.

Not forced. Not pushed. Just ready.

Sometimes the deepest work isn’t loud or dramatic.
It’s quiet. It’s still. It’s a moment where the body finally exhales. And in that exhale… the heart opens.

Healing isn’t about fixing ourselves. It’s about remembering that we were always meant to live open, connected and able to receive love.

This weekend reminded me of that truth. I’m so grateful for Carolyn Ozuna and Jason Ozuna’s love and support in my life and for the spaces, practices and people that make this kind of transformation possible. 💫
