Texas ranked 2nd most dangerous state to ride a motorcycle.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) southern states ranked in the top 10 for the most fatalities for bikers.

The rankings are based on accidents per registered motorcycle. Florida actually had far more fatalities then Mississippi or Texas, but it has more bikers on the road.

Weather seems to play a big role in the ranking process. Colder states such as Alaska and Montana had fewer fatalities because bikers can only ride a few months out of a year compared to Florida and Texas where they can ride most of the year.

We all enjoy a relaxing motorcycle ride with our riding buddies but what happens in an unfortunate event of a collision between you and your friend?

Most of us only think about the fun part and never worry about the "what ifs".

To show how much you really care about your riding buddies starts by learning the basics of motorcycle insurance.

The average cost of medical bills from a motorcycle accident is well above the State minimum liability requirement of $30,000, then take into account that about 40% really goes to the lawyer representing the case, so that leaves you with very little actual money to pay for your friend's medical bills.

One key to remain good friends after an accident is by showing the initiative of buying the right amount of insurance that will cover for the medical bills of those you ride with. Yes this always means a higher premium but it is a piece of mind for you and your friends.

In an event of a serious injury that requires multiple surgeries, the medical bills can easily exceed $60,000. This means that if your insurance limits cannot cover for the full amount of your friend's medical bills, the lawyers will surely go after your assets in order to cover such costs from the hospital.

By having a higher limits on your policy it shows that you care about those you ride with every weekend and in case things happen you "actually" got their back, and not just by saying it but by having enough coverage to cover all of your friend's medical bills.

One thing to remember that the damaged bikes can always be repaired after an accident but the friendship will never be the same if your insurance wasn't enough to cover the medical bills of your friends.

If you don't feel that having proper insurance is important to you, then i seriously advice you to ride alone and do not join any group rides, specially if you are all friends, instead tell them your situation and have them decide if they want you to ride with them.

En el estado de Texas nos caracterizamos por tener todo grande y esto incluye los miles de baches que se encuentra en la via publica la cual los convierte en el enemigo numero uno para nuestros vehiculos.

Muchos de estos baches ademas de causar daños a las llantas y ruedas, tambien causan daños al sistema de suspension, direccion y alineacion.

Las preguntas claves son "lo cubre su seguro? y vale la pena hacer un reclamo?"

Para responder a la primera pregunta.... depende de la cobertura que tiene, si es un seguro basico solo para cumplir con los requisitos del estado de Texas, entonces la respuesta es: No! Pero si usted tiene la cobertural opcional de "Colision", entonces si esta cubierto contra cualquier daño a causa de chocar con algo, en este caso un bache.

En respuesta a la segunda pregunta "vale la pena reclamar los daños bajo la compania de seguro?" lo que hay que poner en la balanza es el costo de reparacion vs su deducible que tiene que pagar para que la compania de seguro se haga responsable de los costos adicionales.

Si los daños provocados por un bache es solo una ponchadura, entonces no es recomendable hacer la reclamacion ya que una reparacion de llanta normalmente no pasa de los $500 dolares, pero si aparte de la ponchadura de la llanta se le suman daños al sistema de direccion o suspension, entonces los costos de reparacion pueden superar los $2000 a $3000 dolares, en este ultimo caso si seria recomendable hacer una reclamacion a su compania de seguros para que el seguro se de vehiculo se haga cargo de la mayoria del costo de las reparaciones.
