ABOUT JEAN

Thirty years ago, I began to rewrite my story. I began exploring the mind-body connection with instruction in many modalities, including mindfulness and meditation. With an experienced and empathic therapist, I looked inward, broke through old patterns, and rebuilt my sense of self. I began to acknowledge myself for all that I am, rather than beat myself up for what I am not. I learned how resilient I am, how valuable I am, how much I have to offer, and how to allow myself to be seen and loved by those who care about me. I learned how to improve my communication skills and challenged myself to deal with conflict using new techniques and tools. I love that I have these new skills that allow me to stand strong in who I am, even when I feel challenged. I love the choices I am making and the relationships I am building.

I am licensed in Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor ( #69739) and have clients all throughout Texas. As a result of integrating countless evidence-based strategies over the course of many years, I am able to support adults and adolescents with anxiety, depression, and trauma by knowing exactly which well to draw from.

I hold a Doctorate in Education from the University of Houston and a Masters in Counselor Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. My husband and I have two grown children and live in Houston with our rescue, Maisy. I love everything about Houston - the restaurants, the museums, the parks, the theaters, the schools, my friends and their families, the rodeo, its proximity to beaches, the hill country, south Texas, west Texas – even the unpredictable weather!

If you’re ready to resolve your issues and create a better future for yourself, book an appointment today or schedule a free consultation call. I can’t wait to meet you!

Educators have concerns that are often unique, different from those in other professions. I understand the challenges that are particular to our field, simply by having experienced many of them myself or by having partnered with my colleagues as they worked through their challenges. I offer significantly reduced rates for educators.

For the past 30 years, young professionals, parents, teenagers, and educators have worked with me to rewrite their life situation by uncovering and deal with past trauma and develop coping skills that allow them to overcome challenges with courage and conviction. They have successfully dealt with:

* specific challenges resulting from the current pandemic due to COVID-19

* relationships with colleagues, a significant other, family members, and friends

* parenting, or concerns for their children — including ADD/ADHD, learning differences, executive functioning skills and management, and time management with their academic responsibilities

* trauma, grief, and loss through divorce or death

* anxiety, depression, and stress in general

* life transitions, work-life balance, and career changes

* life purpose and meaning

Featuring online evening and weekend sessions, I make therapy convenient and easy to fit into your busy life. Clients who work with me appreciate my straightforward and down-to-earth approach and often tell me our meetings are the best part of their week. LENGTH OF PSYCHOTHERAPY

The number of psychotherapy sessions you will need - and how frequently you need to see me - depends on such factors as:

* your particular situation

* the severity of your symptoms

* how long you’ve had symptoms or have been dealing with your situation

* how quickly you make progress

* how much stress you’re experiencing

* how much your mental health concerns interfere with day-to-day life

* how much support you receive from family members and others

Most often, therapy takes only a few weeks to help clients cope with short-term situations. Occasionally, however, treatment may last longer for long-term concerns.

INITIAL SESSION

Initial sessions with me typically last 90 minutes. Every session thereafter is generally 50 minutes, although some clients prefer 75-minute sessions. Your first session is a time for me to gather information about you and your needs. At the end of your first session we will review your goals and the number of therapy sessions you may need.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to get to know me and decide whether or not my approach is going to work for you. It is vital to the therapeutic relationship and effectiveness of therapy that you feel comfortable asking questions about the therapeutic process at any time.

THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS

Psychotherapy is most effective when you're an active participant. Success with psychotherapy depends on your willingness to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. If you're reluctant to talk about certain things because of painful emotions or embarrassment, it is important for you to let me know. Ideally, you will gain more confidence and comfort and trust as you get to know me. Working on emotional issues can be painful and may require hard work. Progress depends on your willingness to consider new insights, ideas and ways of doing things. It's not uncommon to feel worse during the initial part of therapy as you begin to confront past and current conflicts. You may need several sessions before you begin to see improvement. If you don't feel that you're benefiting from therapy after your first few sessions, talk to me about it. You and I may decide to make some changes or try a different approach that may be more effective.

BENEFITS OF PSYCHOTHERAPY

Participating in therapy can help you to:

* navigate through challenges to find resolution to issues and concerns

* develop real skills, strategies, and techniques for improving your relationships with friends, family, and co-workers

* discover beneficial ways to cope with stress and anxiety

* regulate intense emotions such as anger and grief

* abandon debilitating behavior patterns in favor of new constructive ones

* improve your understanding of yourself, your values, your goals

Psychotherapy can give you the power and the tools to cope in a healthy way and to feel better about yourself and your life.

Occasionally, psychotherapy alone may not be enough to ease the symptoms of a mental health condition. You can discuss this with your therapist who can provide support in combination with other treatments.

Life has been especially difficult lately for so many of us. We’re feeling overwhelmed, confused, and numb. We once had the strength to tackle problems, but lately none of our good intentions are working. Our efforts are showing up as anxiety, depression, or anger, and we just want some relief. We are tired of spinning our wheels, and we simply want a life that matches who we feel we are meant to be. We want to be better, and deep down, we know we need to try something new.

When stress and anxiety begin to interfere with our ability to live our lives as we’d like and we feel we can’t turn to family or friends, seeing a professional can help. Feelings we’ve suppressed and been taught are taboo can keep us stuck in flight, flight, or freeze, and we find ourselves reacting from the past. You don’t have to remain paralyzed with indecision or acting out in harmful ways.

Therapy sessions provide opportunities to unpack “I should be” or “I can’t be” messages in a sanctuary of safety, comfort, and support. Processing life experiences is freeing and often leads to new and unimaginable outcomes. Healing old wounds, understanding patterns, and honoring hidden strengths uncover new paths that lead toward improved relationships, joy, and well-being.

My clients often share that our sessions are the best part of their week because they come to realize that awareness is one step closer to living an authentic life with meaningful connections and becoming someone that just feels right.

While starting counseling is a major step, it is a sign of strength, not weakness. Today, more individuals, couples and families are entering counseling, not only to treat illnesses but to improve their quality of life.

Let's uncover the real you, the authentic you – the one who has much to offer and the one who has the strength to stand in the space you deserve. By breaking through patterns that no longer serve you, we can begin to discover and understand how your experiences are what helped to create someone with resilience, strength, and value.
