It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! 49 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. What's not to like about Houston.( maybe 104 degrees with 95% humidity in August). W**ds are still in bloom but less. If you are having symptoms come see me, we have a few appointments available today if needed. November and March are the best months of the year in Houston, enjoy it!

Fall brings us cool dry air which feels great. The days also get shorter. These are the primary triggers of w**d season. But, these triggers also trigger worsening of eczema. If you are itching more than a month ago. Don't wait, start your topical steroids and antihistamine now. If your eczema worsens on medications come see me. I can make the itching stop.

Pollen counts are down to medium today. W**d season is by no means over. If you are miserable come see me. We have appointments open today for urgent patients. You don't have to suffer, we can make you feel better

W**d pollen and mold spores are still high. The last 2 days I have enjoyed the 60-to-70-degree temps. Too bad it goes up to 90 in the afternoon. We need a freeze to end the w**d season. If you are having trouble come see me and I can adjust your meds and decrease your symptoms

09/30/2025

W**d pollen and mold spores are heavy now. Premedicate with antihistamines and azelastine prior to going out. If you are on shots and not having symptoms be happy. If you are on shots and are having symptoms increase your meds and get your shots more often until the season is over. If you are really suffering come see me and we will make it better.

This good hard rain should knock the pollen counts down for today. However, the mold count will go up when the rain stops. One of my biggest problems this time of the year is mosquitos. I am allergic to DETE and can't use Off. I found a recipe for insect repellant using essential oils and witch hazel. It smells realy good and does not bother my skin. Witch hazel 16 ounces, Citronella oil 30 drops, lemongrass oil 30 drops, tea tree oil 30 drops, Frankincense oil 30 drops. Mix it in a spray bottle and spray on your skin. I tested this night fishing at San Luis pass. It worked extremely well.

Seeing all of these first day of school pictures reminds me of our kids when they were little. My granddaughter just had her first day of 5th grade. Now I just think about all of those school forms I am going to have to fill out! I pray that everyone has a successful and blessed school year.

This is a photo of giant ragw**d. It happens to be growing in the woods near my home. Those pods on the tips of the plant are the pollen anthers. Some pollen is already leaking out, but the first cool front that the temperature and humidity drop they crack open and really release major amounts of pollen. Outdoor activities are best planned for early mornings before the dew dries. Start nasal steroid sprays and antihistamine now. If symptoms get the best of you don't suffer. We can give you relief

What a week. The first week of school is always hectic. I must say, I am excited about football season starting. I pray that all our student athletes, on the field, court or cheering them on, have a good season without injuries.

The w**ds and molds are still medium. Grass pollen counts have come back up. There isn't much you can do to avoid exposure other than stay indoors, use your nasal steroid spray and antihistamines. If you are having nasal symptoms when you come home saltwater nasal irrigation will help a lot, follow with Flonase and azelastine. It is really important to use your nasal steroid spray daily to keep the inflammation in check.

I don't know if I have commented on the new nasal epinephrine spray that takes the place of Epi-pen. It is called Neffy. It comes in both pediatric and adult doses. There is no needle. You spray it into your nose like flonase. It works as well as Epi-pen in emergency situations. It has a 2 year shelf life as opposed to 12 months for Epi-pen. It is also more heat stable than Epi-pen. And there is a program offering it for $25 through Blink pharmacy.

I have been following the pollen counts with HMHD. The grass and mold counts have been up as expected this time of year. What's interesting is the w**d pollen has been going up and down. This is early for the w**ds. In years that we have rain in the summer the w**d pollen counts in the fall tend to be higher. W**d season usually starts in September. We are going to have more w**d pollen this fall than usual. Start using your nasal steroid spray every day.
