Hartman Tactics Retired Detective | USCCA & NRA Certified
Teaching women real-world safety and awareness
Confidence starts with preparation
Psalm 144:1 Hi, I’m Heather.

I’m a retired police detective with 19 years of experience and a certified NRA and USCCA firearms instructor. I created Hartman Tactics to help women and families take control of their safety through training that’s real, supportive, and built for everyday life. I spent nearly two decades investigating violent crimes, homicides, sex assaults, and crimes against children. I know what’s at stake when people aren’t prepared. That’s why I teach with purpose and keep things clear, grounded, and direct. My goal is to help you feel confident, strong, informed, and capable. I believe women are not only worth protecting, but fully capable of protecting themselves and the people they love. I believe there’s life after trauma. I help you learn to trust your gut again. Whether you're new to firearms, returning after time away, or simply want to feel more situationally aware and empowered—I’ll meet you where you’re at and guide you every step of the way. When I’m not teaching, I’m home in Texas with my two dogs, Sailor and Ernie. I believe in truth, responsibility, faith, and freedom, and I’m here to help you walk in all of it. Thank you for visiting my page, I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

It looks like a gun… But it’s not!

The BYRNA it’s getting a lot of attention right now, especially for women who do not yet feel comfortable carrying a firearm.

But like anything else, you still need to understand what it can do… And what it can’t. What situations it works for… and which ones it doesn’t.

This is something I walk women through in my workshops.

If you’ve been interested in learning about your Less lethal options for personal protection, comment WORKSHOP and I’ll send you more details! 🫶🏻

Women’s Personal Safety + Less-Lethal Workshop – April 26

Spots are filling. 🙌🏻

This isn’t just another self-defense class.
Most women are either told to “be aware” or jump straight to carrying a firearm…
but no one really explains what to do in between.
That’s exactly what this workshop is for.

We’ll walk through:
• How to recognize potential threats early
• How to carry yourself in a way that makes you less of a target
• What use of force actually means, and where that line is
• What to do before a situation turns physical
• Less-lethal options like pepper spray TASER, and the Byrna Launcher, when they work, and when they don’t.

This is real-world, practical information you can use in your day to day.

We’ll also have hands-on components, including inert pepper spray demonstrations, and Condition 1 Combat Center will be there to teach foundational self-defense movements and explain why repetition and muscle memory are so important.

I haven’t seen many workshops that bring all of this together in one place in a way that’s clear and realistic.

If you’ve ever thought:
“I should probably learn this…”
this is your opportunity.

Spots are limited. Link to save your spot in the comments!

Send me a message or comment WORKSHOP ⬇️ if you have questions.

I’d love to see you there. 🫶🏻

I didn’t know I had to be a content creator to run my business… but here we are.

This is what actually happens behind the scenes while filming my personal safety content.

Pretty sure Ernie was running the show.

She’s 71.
And she’s still training to defend herself.

This isn’t about overpowering someone.
From a seated position, her goal is simple:
create space, get to her feet, and access her pepper spray.

That’s what self-defense and situational awareness look like in real life.

Not winning the fight. Creating an opportunity.

Because for a lot of people, especially as we get older,
that’s what actually works.

Food for thought.

Sending your daughter to college doesn’t come with a safety plan.

But it should.

Most college students have never been taught situational awareness or personal safety.
That’s what this workshop is for.

We cover:
• Situational awareness in real-life environments
• Recognizing behavior before something escalates
• Practical safety options, including less-lethal tools
• Hands-on application and decision making

She’s 71.
And she’s still training to defend herself.

Not because she expects something to happen…
but because she understands it could.

Carlita was honest about her limitations.
I am so impressed by this woman. I couldn’t help but share.

This is what real self-defense training looks like.

Personal safety is about awareness, options, and knowing what you’re capable of.

Your safety doesn’t have an age limit.
Comment below ⬇️ if you believe that too.

You don’t need to carry a gun to be serious about your safety. But you do need to know your options.

That’s exactly what we’re doing in this women’s safety workshop.

We’ll cover:
• How to actually read a situation before it escalates
• What pre-assault behavior can look like
• When and how less-lethal tools make sense
• Hands-on self-defense and real-world application
• How to respond under pressure without second guessing

This is hands-on and built for real life.

As a former detective, one of the first things I look for when I enter a home is line of sight

✔️What can I see immediately?
✔️What can’t I see?
✔️Where are the blind spots?
✔️Where are the stairs?
✔️Where are the exits?

When you start asking those questions, you stop guessing. You start understanding the space around you.

If something feels off, you already know where to move instead of freezing.

Save this for your next showing or the next time you walk into an unfamiliar home.

Years working investigations changed how I see the world and how I look at everyday situations.

When you spend years investigating violent crimes, you learn how quickly situations can escalate and how small decisions can affect your options.

That experience is a big part of why I teach the way I do today.

Situational awareness is not about fear. It is about recognizing what is happening around you and trusting your instincts when something feels off.
If you’ve ever second-guessed your gut feeling, this is for you. 🫶🏻

You do not owe strangers full transparency. Your safety matters more than someone else’s comfort.

Sometimes creating space to leave is the safest decision you can make.

Have you ever stayed somewhere longer than you wanted to because you didn’t know how to leave?

Realtors walk into tight spaces all the time during showings. Closets, laundry rooms, small bathrooms.

From a safety standpoint, confined spaces limit your movement and make it easier for someone to block your exit.

After years in law enforcement, one thing became very clear, your positioning matters. Small decisions about where you stand and how you move can change your options if something suddenly feels off.

They can also influence how someone else assesses the situation. The way we carry ourselves and position our body can affect a person’s decision-making process.

Realtors, what’s one safety habit you already practice?

I train fi****ms. I teach women how to carry safely and responsibly. I believe in that.

But let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough attention.

Deadly force isn’t our starting point.

There are layers before it ever becomes a deadly force decision.

Situational awareness.
Can we recognize a threat early enough to avoid it?

Less lethal options.
Is there a tool that matches the level of the threat?

And if a situation truly becomes a deadly force encounter, then we respond accordingly.

I recently took the Byrna less lethal launcher out to the range, to test it myself. I have opinions about where it makes sense and where it doesn’t, and those opinions are based on my time in law-enforcement.

Social Media loves to glamorize carry methods. New holsters. New bags. New set ups. I love options too!

But what’s often missing is the conversation about judgment.

Not every confrontation requires a firearm. And not everyone is comfortable carrying one.

If this is something you’ve been curious about, I do have a few available. I’ll also be covering where it fits, and where it doesn’t in an upcoming class.

Is this something you’ve considered? I would love to hear your thoughts!
