*Long post alert.
I love how God works things in perfect timing. He nudges those who are willing to follow his spirit to create Kairos moments.
This song "Show me your glory" by Brandon Lake and Leeland was released at the perfect time that I would need.
11/17/2020 our 5th child Josiah was born septic with a GBS strep infection that required him to be on life support for 139 days in a level IV NICU in downtown Houston before passing away Easter weekend, the day after my 30th birthday. On day 79 Josiah was in a very bad place, as many times over the last almost 3 months. Once again needing another miracle to survive the night. He had stopped peeing so his swelling was out of control, he had over 5 pounds of fluid on him. Due to the severe edema(Swelling), his ventilator was on an extremely high setting, higher than the NICU director had ever seen in 30 years. His PIP(breath strength) averaging over 85 and peaking around 97 before the machine would trip out and reset. This caused him to desaturate while the machine would reset and try to catch back up. He had been above a 40 PIP since he was a few days old, which is already extremely high, even for adults.
This night was very scary. Renee and I were both able to be at the hospital (Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital) staying in a Ronald McDonald House room. People had been saying that we should just let him die and that we were torturing him. Renee asked me if it was time to let go. I didn't feel like it was the right time yet so i went back into our room to listen to music and pray. I opened Youtube to pick a worship song and found this song. The second i clicked on it and heard the first key stroke on the piano, it infused me with hope and strength. I felt like God himself was filling me with what i needed to hold on for another night.
I went back into his pod and stayed by his bed. By morning he started peeing again and swelling went down miraculously. It was so undeniably a miracle and he looked like a different kid within 48 hours.
This song had been released less than 2 weeks before i needed it and this was the first time that i had heard it. God placed it in my feed when i needed it.
This morning I was reading 2 Corinthians with my children and came upon 4:17-18 " For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
This reminded me of Romans 8:18 which is tattooed on my arm " I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us".
Our suffering is real and not to be neglected. But if we can come through our suffering with an eternal perspective, it makes it bearable. Suffering might seem like it takes forever but is temporary. Eternity is forever, the glory to be revealed is eternal. You never know the effect that you have on others watching you have hope in suffering.
